Hi everyone,

I'm new, in terms of being active, on the forum.

Formerly 'ruskter' (when I was on my L's with a manual r33)

I recently aqcuired my full licence and I'm now the proud owner of an R34 GTT ☺

I'm in Sydney and always keen to go for a drive and whatnot ?

However my engine needs either a headgasket if im lucky, a full rebuild if im not.

Alternatively a replacement engine may be an option. These are the issues:

headgasket (oil in the radiator and blows smoke)

Has noisy lifter or something near the front exhaust side of the engine.

Was certain it was missing power so I did a compression test myself last week and found out it has low compression cyl 1 and 2 (around 55-70 compared to 150ish on cylinders 3 to 6)

Idle at 1250rpm

Ive gotten a quote from a decent mechanic across the road from my house and they said 1500 for the head gasket which seems cheap but not sure if it would need more repairs (and im broke as)

Any advice would be much appreciated!!

My advice, stop driving it immediately, make some calls and find a decent mechanic with RB experience $1500 sounds too much, save up and do it properly.

Pull head off and look at gasket. I'm gonna say you have a break in cylinder 1/2.

Send head off for machining get new gasket and some head studs.

Know any good shops in sydney to try?

Even thinking if id be able to do it myself..

Also how much work is needed for a ls engine ? V8 r34 sounds like an idea worth considering!
