OK i know what your saying about impressions...i often find the new merc or alfa a bit confronting to look at ( first impression) but after a while i start to appreciate the Italian style of these and others audi etc..The v 35 coupe /350z has the italian curves and looks sexy for it .the sedan has the italian front ..nice curves and then this Russian style rear end..dead set fugly...just like the 350z would look if you jammed 2 more doors and a massive boot into it.,the style of sedan i just don`t get and never will...i have seen them in the flesh and they remind me of dogs breakfast

commercially i`d have to agree with nissan australia .i don`t think they sell any great numbers here and will sell even less as a grey import regardless of price ...the maxima comes with factory wty, dealer network,no finance/insurance dramas

i have looked a this model pretty hard evo-lee ..done enough research i think and i`ve put my money on the coupe..and will be added to my raws schedule in the not to distant future

the sedan will have to get more than facelift or bumlift before i bother with it

this may not be a" in depth opinion" by the way....never drove or seen a 260rs before i bought 1(its fantastic )or v35 coupe(we`ll see) i just put my money where my mouth is and find out for myself

I find alot of guys place judgement on cars they've never seen in the flesh or driven...but somehow they can give such a great indepth opinion.
Aha! We were having this very conversation last weekend weren't we Troy?

Seriously, if you see some of the V35 Sedans modded by Own (Nissan in-house customising arm) or even IMPUL (with their 2 circular plastic tail light covers to mimic Skylines of old) in the flesh and every other day, the shape does grow on you and it actually looks quite tough (compared with alot of other limp wristed efforts going around Japan)... even from the rear!

if you throw enough money..ie bodykits ,wheels etc at commodore`s they can look pretty tough too...but yuk.....most jap cars can look fat with the right mods ..ive seen pics of 35 sedans with gt wings and kits and they look great

....the point being made i guess is that if you change its appearance enough...

...it looks great...

i think there is enough cool sedans chaser/r34 or stagea wagon that don`t need a complete makeover before you would let anyone see it...that sedan needs some serious plastic surgery before i`d take it out in the daylight

but then its just a matter of taste

I just tried set in one 4 door in Bribane few weeks ago and I did not liked.Inside is not too bad but outside is looks like Nissan Maxima /too me /.

2 door 35 should be allready on boat and should be in Brisbane on 13 april. It is a first import to Australia.

to 666DAN; if you are interested to get one 4 or 2 door 35 Skyline send me a PM .

They are know as a Mini Maxima but the 350 GT-8 is the one to get if you want a 4 Door as it has every option and the 3.5 Litre Motor.

We have had a Red and Silver 2 Door and Gold 4 Door here in Perth for a while and the 4 Doors grow on you, the V35 2 Door with this kit below is the go.

DNA MOTORSPORT have done a couple of cars and will do the 350Z/V35.

I've been given an estimated price for a 350 coupe of around $55k

As much as I want one I cannot justify that sort of price when you look around at what you can get for that sort of money.

'04 350Z with $10k change(or supercharged) and Nissan warranty

New STI almost

New Mazda 6 MPS 4WDT

Used RX8

New Maxima + Almost New Pulsar

New Monaro

Used HSV Monaro

The list could go on.

I considered myself a Skyline nut (owned 1965 GTB,240KGT,C211,R30,31,33,&34)

If I don't think they are worth that for say an '03 model (and can afford that price range) what will the average guy think when looking at one.

I don't see many sales until prices come back a fair way.

Much as I'd like a coupe I'm not prepared to pay that sort of money and live with possible parts and insurance hassles just to be different.

I dont know price yet , but few weeks ago I sat down in 4 door version V35.I dont know ,did not suprised me from outside.

But today I saw 2 door ,only over the fence yet and its awesom. Its like big dog behind fence ,ready to jump on postmen who drive motobike beside the fence.

It's the headlights I hate the most personally.

Granted seeing a car in the flesh is much different, but if you don't like the look of something that's a personal choice, and for many people seeing it in the flesh won't change that because it's something fundamental that they don't like about it. Chrysler Crossfire I think is ugly as, for instance, and I thought this when I'd only seen it on TV and then I saw a couple in the flesh and it just confirmed my original opinion.

V35 looks average to me...this is only a problem because I'd prefer it to look somewhat better than average.

Yeah I totally agree, 55k is too rich for a stock, butt-ugly used N/A ;)

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
    • By "reverse flow", do you mean "return flow"? Being the IC having a return pipe back behind the bumper reo, or similar? If so... I am currently making ~250 rwkW on a Neo at ~17-18 psi. With a return flow. There's nothing to indicate that it is costing me a lot of power at this level, and I would be surprised if I could not push it harder. True, I have not measured pressure drop across it or IAT changes, but the car does not seem upset about it in any way. I won't be bothering to look into it unless it starts giving trouble or doesn't respond to boost increases when I next put it on the dyno. FWIW, it was tuned with the boost controller off, so achieving ~15-16 psi on the wastegate spring alone, and it is noticeably quicker with the boost controller on and yielding a couple of extra pounds. Hence why I think it is doing OK. So, no, I would not arbitrarily say that return flows are restrictive. Yes, they are certainly restrictive if you're aiming for higher power levels. But I also think that the happy place for a street car is <300 rwkW anyway, so I'm not going to be aiming for power levels that would require me to change the inlet pipework. My car looks very stock, even though everything is different. The turbo and inlet pipes all look stock and run in the stock locations, The airbox looks stock (apart from the inlet being opened up). The turbo looks stock, because it's in the stock location, is the stock housings and can't really be seen anyway. It makes enough power to be good to drive, but won't raise eyebrows if I ever f**k up enough for the cops to lift the bonnet.
    • There is a guy who said he can weld me piping without having to cut chassis, maybe I do that ? Or do I just go reverse flow but isn’t reverse flow very limited once again?
    • I haven’t yet cut the chassis, maybe I switch to a reverse flow. I’ve got the Intercooler mounted as I already had it but not cut yet. Might have to speak to an engineer
    • Yes that’s another issue, I always have a front mount, plus will be turbo plus intake will big hasstle. I’ve been told if it looks stock they’re fine with it by a couple others who have done it ahahaha.    I know @Kinkstaah said the stock gtt airbox is limiting but I might just have to do that to avoid a defect so it atleast looks legit. Or an enclosed pod so it’s hidden away and feed air from the snorkel and below Intercooler holes like kinstaah mentioned. Hmm what to do
