Hi guys,

just thought I'd say hello, seeing as my Stagy is shipping from Japan today. So far I've always driven GTi-Rs, but thought I'd try something different for a change.

Here are a couple of pics of it:

Car should be arriving here around the 9th of August, guessing clearance and compliance to be around 10 days, so with any luck I should have it in my driveway by the end of August!

it just took 11 days to get mine of the docks 17th arrived... 28th released ..

Yeah, depends a bit on DOTARS though, sometimes they take a bit of time issueing the plates, the last two cars I've imported were fairly quick though! I'd rather be thinking "late August" than "mid August" and then be dissapointed if it doesn't happen, hehe... anyway, still have a GTi-R to drive around until then so I won't be bored!

Hi CoolPC, it doesn't always go as planned. I purchased ours on 6th May, it left Japan on the 12th May and arrived on the 3rd June, which was 1 day late against the Kiwi Car Carriers shipping schedule. Quarantine held it for 5 working days until they released it. It took 2 days to travel the 10 k's and get from the dock in Brisbane to the compliance shop. Then it spent 10 working days getting physically complied as promised. But :cuss: DOTARS took another 17 working days to complete the paperwork as it had a later model LHS rear door, which eventually had to be changed. It then took 4 working days to get from Brisbane to Sydney and arrived here on 22nd July.

So if you get yours in under 2 months, registered and ready to go, consider yourself lucky. :(

Oh yeah, didn't think it had anything to do with the broker, it's just new to me so I thought I'd ask... I've never had a car cleared in Brissy, all my cars have gone through Sydney so I'm glad to hear about ppls experiences up here in Brissy!

well i`ve being bringing them in for 8-9 years now (bris) and the only fu*kup i ever get is quarantine...in the past 13 days 650 used unit arrived ...300 tomorrow...have an R34 on that one..well see how long that takes ....quarantine officer tells me that 60% of shipments of late are 15year old ..dirty and difficult (non starter) therfore taking longer...next ship arrives before last cleared ...blah blah blah

oh yeah ....and they don`t work weekends :throwup:

hehe fair enough! The volume of used imports has certainly gone sky-high, got a feeling most of those are '89 models :(

DOTARS took another 17 working days to complete the paperwork as it had a later model LHS rear door, which eventually had to be changed.  :

It wasnt DOTRS what happened was some late 1998 model cars had different side intrusion bars and the engineer who built the evidence pack didnt want to crash another car.

He is finally doing one but another engineer has crashed one just for that short period of production to help people out.

A lot is blamed on DOTRS when it is nothing to do with them,

If your paperwork is correct the computer accepts them.

If you evidence isnt new evidence their is no delay.

The Vehicle Inspection Certificate for my Stagea went in on Wenesday and my plate arived on Tuesday because the RAWS didnt make mistakes.

I was checking over paper work for a RAW today and found 3 simple mistakes, it doest matter how much you check it you miss the simple ones their is that much and that holds you up.

Yep all that is absolutely correct, except ours was an early 1997 build. My problem is why did DOTARS insist on crash testing (at a cost of ~$25K) when the later model doors (with better side intrusion bars) are already approved? It is simply illogical. If I need to replace a door now and buy a new one from Nissan, I will get a later model one, as they don't make the earlier one any more.

All it needed from DOTARS was a recognition of the fact that vehicle manufacturers do rolling updates. So newer model parts will appear in earlier model cars. If the earleir model is approved and the later model is approved then the rolling update should be approved.

What it means is, anyone who imports a Stagea from now on will have to pay back their share of the $25K that was waisted on the crash test. In my case, I had to waist $500 on a used earlier model (unsafer) door and then get it painted. As I said, totally illogical. :headspin:

Of course it is DOTARS fault, because they make the regulations. The regulations are very tough to discourage ppl from importing their own cars - and that's the reason the RAWs find it difficult to comply with every shitty little request DOTARS sees fit to impose on them. If they were just that little bit more leniant things would go a lot more smoothly and we'd still have a very high standard of cars coming into Australia. As it stands a lot of 5-yr old second hand cars sold (even ex-gov) are much worse than our imports, and nobody gives a rat's arse about those, still they give us grieve about every shitty little thing that's wrong on the car :D

afaik adjustable suspension is ok because it can just be set to stock ride height, at least that's what was done to two of my GTi-Rs, and the compliance workshop should have an exhaust, but will work it out once the car is here and I know exactly what I need and what parts are in the boot :(

afaik adjustable suspension is ok because it can just be set to stock ride height, at least that's what was done to two of my GTi-Rs, and the compliance workshop should have an exhaust, but will work it out once the car is here and I know exactly what I need and what parts are in the boot :(

I have a spare set of supension and an exhaust for sale because the car had to be back to standard.

They have to be factory parts.

I'd be interested to know if a R33 exhaust would fit on a RS Four. The front pipe & dump pipe look the same, but I haven't had a chance to compare the cat back section.

Also, my suspension in the Stagea is pretty firm for standard (they all look standard), handles very well for stock, would like to drop it about 25mm but that's about all.

    • All the schemas I can see, indicate your typical setup of ATF 'cooler' (read: heat exchanger) in the bottom radiator tank..ie; https://nissan.epc-data.com/stagea/wgnc34/5413-rb25det/engine/214/ ...but I can prattle on a bit here. These trannies have a thermistor in the sump ~ the TCU reads this and 1. bumps the line pressure up when the ATF is 'cold' and 2. prevents the TC lockup clutch from operating, until the ATF comes up to minimum operating temp (keeps the ATF 'churning' through the TC so it heats up quicker) -- trigger point is around 55C. In these conditions, the engine coolant temperature rises faster than the ATF temperature, and also helps heat the ATF up, which is why it's best to think of the in radiator tank setup as a heat exchanger ; the heat can flow in both directions... ...with these trannies, the 'hot' ATF comes out the front banjo bolt, flows through the cooler/heat exchanger, and returns to the box  via the rear banjo bolt. This gets a mention, due to the wildly different opinions wrt running auto trans fluid coolers ~ do you bypass the in radiator tank altogether, or put the cooler inline with the in radiator tank system...and then, do you put the additional cooler before of after the in radiator tank system?... ....fact is the nominal engine operating temp (roughly 75C), happens to be the ideal temperature for the ATF used in these trannies as well (no surprises there), so for the in radiator tank system to actually 'cool' the ATF, the ATF temp has to be hotter than that...lets say 100C -- you've got 25C of 'excess' heat, (slowly) pumping into the 75C coolant. This part of the equation changes drastically, when you've got 100C ATF flowing through an air cooled radiator ; you can move a lot more excess heat, faster ~ it is possible to cool the ATF 'too much' as it were...(climate matters a lot)... ...in an 'ideal' setup, what you're really trying to control here, is flash heating of the ATF, primarily produced by the TC interface. In a perfect world, wrt auto trans oil cooling, you want a dedicated trans cooler with builtin thermostatic valving - they exist. These should be run inline and before the in radiator tank system ~ when 'cold' the valving bypasses the fin stack, allowing the ATF to flow direct to the in radiator tank heat exchanger, so it works 'as intended' with helping heat the ATF up. When 'hot' (iirc it was 50C threshold), the valving shuts forcing the ATF through the cooler fin stack, and onto the in radiator tank heat exchanger...and you sort of think of it as a 'thermal conditioner' of sorts...ie; if you did cool your ATF down to 65C, the coolant will add a little heat, otherwise it works as intended... ...the 'hot' ATF coming from the front bango bolt, is instantiated from the TC when in use, so all/any flash heated oil, flows to the fluid-to-air cooler first, and because of the greater heat differential, you can get rid of this heat fast. Just how big (BTU/h) this cooler needs to be to effectively dissipate this TC flash heat, is the charm...too many variables to discuss here, but I just wanted to point out the nitty-gritty of automatic trans fluid coolers ~ they're a different beastie to what most ppl think of when considering an 'oil cooler'... /3.5cents   
    • Been a busy but productive day. Axle and hubs acquired. All fitted up after a bit of modifying. Need to sort out wider mudguards and running light reflector covers but other than that the trailer is gooood to go !!
    • Selling a SMIC for a Nissan Stagea C34 Series 2 and the pipe from the intercooler to inlet. (I believe it is the same R34 GTT, please correct me if I'm wrong) Price: $50? I dont have a photo of the big black pipe that goes from SMIC outlet to throttle body.
    • So the original radiator is leaking now. Looking at getting a fully aluminium one next. Am I correct in saying that the Series 2 Auto Stageas have a separate trans cooler from factory (located in between the rad and intercooler in my previous post/message).   Currently looking at Fenix $460, Blitz $700, GReddy $800, and KoyoRad $740. What are everyones thought on Fenix ( ive read a few comments saying theyre cheap Chinese rebrands etc and how their build quality is... well.. chinese...)  compared to the others? Worth the extra couple hundies?
