Hey all

Early next year i plan on selling the old holden and getting a Skyline. Anyhow i'am after some advice on what to get, as a majority of current owners would have already been down this road?

Im leaning towards a r32/33 GTS-T Manual, and purchasing it down south.

1. which is better r32 or r33? and why?

2. Rough what i could get with a budget of 20k

3. obvious/common things to look out for and avoid?

4. One last thing should i get a car with mods already done IE- exhaust and intercooler if possible or stock as and do the work as i feel the need for speed?

For $22k you could get an 1989 R32 GTR.

For around $12k you could get an 89 R32 GTST.

Import yourself.

Soon as you go above 1990 you're talking compliance so add $2k onto the price, and go through the hassles of trying to find a stock standard car as you can't get modified ones complied.

I bought a R33 series 2 - gtst - auto. few months back. Imported it through a broker in SVI in Brissie... They did the compliance for about $1,600... Car had 23k only on the clock...Nice and standard for all up handed to me for $19,000......... Really wrapped with the car..... lYou know where I saw this car and gave the broker the go ahead to buy I bought the f/en thing for 6000,000 yen converted to $7,700 Aust....thats all it cost over there. Thanks to protection for Ford and Hodlen they added about 10,500 in import tax.

Still was a very good buy for 19g. I've since added a pwr FMICooler and turbo smart boost gauge.. to 9 psi only and a uni filter GTR foam filter in the stock air box..

See ya on the road guys, mine is blue/ purple colour plated with "series2"

have seen a few GTRS in perth go for 19K both stock and fairly clean.

Surely that can't possibly be an imported and on road price? Even the importers sell them for more than that.

UNless they are poor examples.

Got a URL? I know someone that would buy 20 at that price :)

Hey Craig,

Nice to hear you are still alive!!. I dont think I have have seen a "nice clean" 89 gtr for under 20k. I had a look at importing a heap of these, started looking for them 18 months ago. I have a few offered to through my supplier in Japan but nothing that was good enough to resell. I would be very careful about purchasing an 89 gtr. If anything goes wrong with a gtr get ready for a bank loan.

my 2 cents,

Ken

    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
