Hey all,

After driving around here without a ticket since November 2002 I was over in New Zealand about a week or so ago and managed to get myself a ticket for 130 in 100 zone I think it was. NZ$170.

What do you think will happen if I don't pay it?

hahah

is that all you got?

I got done for doing 140 in a 100 zone in my rental Echo on some massive open stretch of straight road in the absoloute middle of f'ing nowhere on South Island. Let me tell you 140 in a 1.3 litre echo is not easy.

The fine was $450NZD.

I ignored it for a few months until i was feeling a bit guilty so i ended up paying it via their website http://www.fines.govt.nz/ .

Basically the process goes like this. You have 28 days from the notice to pay the fine, if you dont pay it you get 28 more days, then it goes to court and they tack on another $30 for court fees and send it the Collections Business Unit. Once it goes to collections you can then pay it over the internet at http://www.fines.govt.nz/

That was the easiest way to deal with it... If you never plan on going back to NZ then dont pay it.

Thing is that I do plan on going back.  Just not sure what they do.  Like do they pick you up at customs on the way in?

Nah they can't do that at the moment. There is a bit of politics involved in making that happen which seems like too much of an effort for them.

The problem lies in if you want to rent a car and have too many unpaid fines they may deny it, or if you get pulled over you might have some issues.

I wouldn't have been speeding except for we just came out of some hills and saw Mt Ruapehu so I got all excited and put my foot down a bit more. I would only have been going that speed for about 400m when I got busted. Goddammit!

They've just changed it so they can impound your car, but you have to have over $1500 worth of fines or something before they will do it.

Wow, that's like having government-issued, interest-free credit card with a $1500 limit  Even more if you only drive rentals.

ha i can beat that, we were recently in NZ, and had the privlidge of driving a toyota Previa (what they call Taragos over there) a real heap of shit... on the way back to the airport again in the middle of absloutely nowhere i was laying down in the back when it seemed the car was making a lot of noise for a flat part of road, i asked my mate who was driving how fast we were going and he told me 160... this was on onw of those stupid long straight roads on the South Island

NO FINE....

Note: radar detectors are legal in NZ with most cars haing them

The PM of New Zealands Motorcade was clocked at 140 so she could get to the rugby without missing kickoff.

I thought when u rent a car in NZ there's a clause that you signed on that u agree to be responsible on all fines. Couldn't the rental company charges you on the fine because it incurred during your rental period and they still have your credit card imprint?

must have been trying hard to get busted for speeding in the south island.. cops were so rare you'd almost stop and point at them.

lol @ pooski and the previus / tarago.. we had one of them too a couple of years back when we were over there. Thing copped a caining - sounds exactly the same as we were doing over there  "hey cool, lets see how fast we can get over that one way bridge before that other car comes" :( ahh, memories.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
