So live in New York, after banging my head against a keyboard trying to get any info out of the US forums I found you guys and gals. Even as a lurker I found you guys to be incredibly helpful. Also you seen to be much more willing to push the limits more.

Current car is a 1990 R32 GTR 128 Km

mod list includes:

  • 94 RB26TT
  • 94 Trans
  • Stock turbos w/steel internals
  • HKS intercooler and  piping
  • HKS BOV
  • HKS intake
  • Aftermaket Cam pullys
  • Manuel Boost Controller
  • N1 Oil Pump
  • N1 Water Pump
  • Exedy single clutch
  • Nismo Downpipe
  • ISR stainless steel test pipe
  • Nismo Catback (I think its for a R33 it has the carbon fiber tip)

Planned/considered mods:

  • Nistune(already on its way)
  • Make the damn Nismo exhaust loud
  • Cams
  • EBC?
  • Injectors
  • Coil pack
  • Turbos
  • R34 Trans
  • The Moon

Would love some advice on any of the above mods or any things you think i should do first, especially the EBC and coil packs. Currently looking to get 4-450 whp with the current set up with an overall goal for now is to get to somewhere in the range of 550-600 whp maybe 700 if I'm feeling frisky. Only real issue with the car so far is that it keep over boosting to the point that I can go 3/4 throttle without it spiking to 20 psi (feels amazing/scares the hell out of me).  Look forward to hearing what you guys have to say and can't wait to build this machine.

Gidday!

How about some pics of your car?

New or better coils should be high on the list as should some kind of electronic boost control.

Consider a single turbo conversion:

Cams can wait - a good tuner will get the best out of your current set up with the adjustable cam gears.

Six speed gearbox would be nice but probably new turbo set up a better use for your money. Then injectors to suit.

Happy spending - I mean modifying!

Coil packs will probably be the next upgrade along with an ignition harness. Car had issue just after I got where it developed a stutter at low RPM(under 4k) and at less than half throttle. After freaking out that it might be the timing we ended changing out the spark plugs first and discovering that the plug for cylinder two was shot and likely causing a misfire. Issue went away following the plug change but I have a nasty sneaking suspicion that it'll come back and that the real culprit is the coil packs. Other issues include a leak from where the intake manifold meets the throttle bodies due to shoddy  paper gaskets which probably didn't help matters. New gaskets are in route.

As for an EBC any suggestion on brand? I have a MAC EBC in my Spec.B and have had no issues with it. Also if one of you could kindly point me to an install write up that would be amazing. Give that to the best of my knowledge the R32 didnt come with a EBC Im not terrible certain how to wire it up.

    • would a r34 gtr hood line up with gt/gtt stock fenders? after latch, front bumper and hinges are swapped for gtr ones? or would the fenders be too low or high in relation to the hood surface? ( I believe seeing somewhere that gtr front fenders use some type of riser for the sides, but do not know how that relates to stock gt/gtt fenders.)
    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
