Hi guys owned my R33 GTST S1.5 (S2 engine and ecu etc) for 3 years and I have installed a manual Turbosmart Boost Tee along with some other bits (see below)

I have disconnected the vac hoses from the standard solenoid, and connected the boost tee inline with a source from the main inlet intercooler hose and the waste-gate actuator and plugged the hose to the return/recirculating pipe as per all good threads on here.

It’s boosting at a stable 7 psi, however when I took the car past 5k rpm in 3rd on full throttle, the boost jumped to 10psi and held there all the way to the redline. The same in fourth gear. Why would this happen?

I don’t class it as a spike as it is stable and predictable.

i don’t have a aftermarket dump pipe etc.

Runing the standard ECU.

Standard turbo

Any advice would be appreciated.

Mods:
Blitz pod air filter
R34 SMIC
Japspeed down pipe only (with standard turbo elbow)
Decat
Japspeed 3” cat back exhaust.
Turbosmart boost T and Boost gauge
Cheers!

Sounds ideal - bit of extra power when you want it!

Can you return the boost T as faulty and get another?

Try disassembling it and give it a clean and oil.

Sure you have the hoses that bleed off and to the actuator the right way round?

Thanks guys, no vacuum lines attached to the standard solenoid, just left it electrically connected.

id like to run closer to 10 psi all the time but don’t want to risk a 3psi jump at the top of the Rev range.

Cheers.

Doesn’t seem quite as bad now, maybe a 1psi increase at high rpm, still under 10 psi so safe. I did feel a flat spot at 65000 rpm in 3rd though.

not sure what fuel pump I’m running, it’s noisey when it primes!

Its it more likely fuel related? Possibly ignition, plugs and coils or standard ecu struggling?

    • A lot of the trim pieces on the E39 are super brittle and just dissolve when you try to get them off. It looks like a previous owner has used what can only be described as an industrial construction foam adhesive to glue down a tiny piece of trim.  Unfortunately this part of the tailgate is starting to rust because of how much shit is in here. This is stopping the water draining and there's a big build-up of dirt that is just staying wet. How can I remove this? Would a flap disc get rid of this?  I think this car spent a lot of time inland. There's so much light coloured, fine dirt and dust everywhere.  Sorry for the pic. I've cleaned this all up now so I'll get another pic of it clean today.
    • Surely, just about any shop that has done a Skyline (or Supra, or RX-7, or EVO, or WRX) will have done E85. But perhaps you need to specify what type of car, what type of engine, what ECU, you propose to be using.
