Hi guys,

Had my 33 on the dyno for the first time the other day, trying to sort a problem with a flat spot/hesitation around 3000rpm. It was showing 155.8 rwkw @ 6750 rpm. As far as I know, the only mod to the car is a cat back exhaust. Does this power figure seem accurate?

I am also interested to know what the rwkw figure is for a stock r33 if someone could tell me.

Also I have run out of ideas with what might be causing the problem with the car. It usually only happens when the car is cold, and only around 3000rpm. Happens inconsistently and mostly if you shift up a gear to 2500rpm and then accelerate. Everyone that has seen it says that it is not the coils, and the guy that dynoed it says that he thinks it might be a partially blocked exhaust becuase the car is very quiet.

Any suggestions?

Nick

hey dude, you copying me;)j/k

it may just be your plugs... my car had a miss on the dyno due to fouled plugs (apparently octane booster and platinums don't agree with each other)

If it is just the odd miss here and there most likely to be some kind of spark/ignition problem... wouldn't worry about power output... if anything 155rwkw sounds a bit on the high side

Geez, names are pretty close aren't they!!

Plugs are iridiums I got from Nissan. Don't think they are fouled at all.

Problem was really bad this morning. It is hard to reproduce on the dyno and is mainly when the car is cold. It is as if it is coming onto boost and then it just goes jerky and loses power for a second or two, then goes fine. Change gears and it does it again. Once the car has warmed up, it seems to run fine.

Interloper - Got the car dynoed at Geelong Tune Up by Phil. Which side of geelong are you from?

Why cant you just wait till the car has warmed up? You're supposed to warm the engine up first anyway, otherwise you force unnecessary wear on the internals.

It could be the plugs tho. Iridiums are only good for durability. Copper plugs have a bigger head (so they produce a bigger spark), copper is more conductive than platinum/iridium (so its easier to get a spark), and they self clean (carbon deposits have a higher affinity to bond with platinum/iridium). Only problem with coppers is they need to be changed every 10-15K km.

hehe, my names phil too

I'm from leopold and used to get dalton to do work on my car. Where abouts is "Geelong Tune Up"? I've never even heard of them.

:D

Interloper, Where abouts in Leopold? I'm from Leopold as well. My line is the burgandy R33 with white rims. Geelong Tune Up is in Wood St, South Geelong. I get all of the servicing/normal work done by my Dad or do it myself, cause Dad has his own workshop in Crown St, but he doesn't really go into the performance side of things at all. Whats Dalton like? I've heard he's pretty pricey.

RiggaP - I live right near the highway. Only 800 metres of driving and then I am on the highway, so I need to get to 100 reasonably fast, wouldn't go past 4000rpm until it has warmed up though.

Don't think it is plugs cause it was doing it before I put Iridiums in. When I first got the car, it wasn't doing it though.

would like to stay off boost, but there are a lot of cars on this particular highway. And it is only 2 lanes wide so at 8.20 in the morning there aren't too many gaps!!!

Remote start would be nice! Especially since the car lives outside and is pretty cold in the morning!!

Hey, me too i live about 800m from bellarine hwy and use the remote start before i get going in the morning cause its a pain getting upto speed on a busy morning.

But i don't really give a sh1t, i just take my time to get to 100 - who cares if you hold up a lane of traffic? the well being of your cars much more important :P

I live just off melaluka, off cypress cres. Where abouts are u?

Dalton is good, they charge much less than shops in melb, but they don't have a 4wd dyno. But i usually take the line to melb to get work done - RiggaP knows...

:)

Off Highland Way, just up from the Leopold Sportsmans Club. I reckon its time for a Geelong members get together!! How about a bbq one Sunday down Eastern Beach or something? Of course everyone else is invited as well, not just Geelong people. If people are interested, I will postit in the events section.

    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
