I think a first car for everyone should be a manual gemini.

(i really do!) :D

I have no idea how much non turbz go for. checkout all the places that sell.

tradingpost, carsales, carpoint, directimported.com.au prestigemotorsport.com.au etc

Also I wouldn't bother with a non-turbz skyline especially a r33 but that's just me (i've never been in one and i dont like r33)

Hmmmm, i reckon go AE86 hehe :D Would be a nice non-turbo first car. You probably want to shy away from the line as your first car, because if you put a dent on it, you will pull your hair out!!! Get a basher for your first car to learn, then whilst you drive it, save for the turbo line...

hi 'newb',

are you a 'NEWBE' to the Skline scene or the drive scene????

the non-turbo R33 skline (when found in good nick), is still a bit of a let down.

What I mean is, these cars are designed primarily for use with a wizzer.

Most insurer's don't give a sh1t if it's NA or Turbo (the price is similarly high with some mobs, if they will insure you at all!!)

They still 'go' at least as good as commondore/falcahore (probably better), but damn, unless you're totally in love with the look of the 33 (like I am), just get a little NA 91-93 Silvia (heaps around for $6500-$10000)with a 2.0 litre manual tranny. They're economical, handle/stop/driftwank well and are easy and great fun to do up....with the money you'll save on getting a 'half-baked 33' .(sorry N/A ers...I just know ur gonna roast me on this one!!)

Heck newby..........u r gonna ding it in next to no time (and that's normal unfortuneatly), just learn to drive well and more importantly, learn about the other d1ckheads out there.

Hey, But you got the cash..............and you did ask?

Mark.

what about a aus-delivered R31 GTS

non-turbo (keep your dad happy) but from memory they are an rb30e but mildly tuned for some fun

and look neat...

otherwise i would say an R33GTS is good, but eventually you will itch for a turbo and its not cost-effective to convert an NA to a turbo...

good luck!

Sorry man, I thought my whole point was about getting experience, in any sort of 'lower power' car, maybe just for a year(?).....you don't like early Silvia styling, I don't like the thought of inexperienced youngsters driving high powered machines....I'm with your old man on this one!! :D

Hehe superspit. That's it mate.

If I had a turbz my first car the tree I wrote my first car into would have been my gravestone.

AE86 would a great first car. Always can transplant a fat engine into it later and use it for drift/track work.

And if I was getting a n/a sporty car I'd have to go the silvia or 180.

my 2c.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
