Hello,

I'm interested in getting some 2 way splits for the front. 6.5" is probably the right size for me. Will be running from a Pioneer GMX414 amp (4x60) with some Phillips 6.5" splits at the back for rear fill.

If the front ones don't get enough kick to them that way I will run the rear ones from the headunit and bridge the amp for 2x140 to the front.

At the moment I have a 10" noname sub and a generic amp but will be replacing probably with a decent 12" and decent amp. (If that's enough for a r32 4 door.. i think it should be).

Anyways - I need to know which splits I'm going to audition before going to the shop cos I need to make sure they have them on a soundstage.

I have basically been thinking of looking at these splits and would like to know your experiences with them, and if you have any other comparable ones that may be worth looking at also.

Currently I'm looking at

MB Quartz DSE216 .. i think they're 6.5"

and Boston Acoustics RC620 6.5"

Then I need to find myself some pods or think of a way to mount them nice in the doors with deadener etc but I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

Please let me know what you think guys, or if you have other comparable ones I can look at..

ta!

Thanks for the advice - will add them to my list :)

hehe I've heard focals are excellent - if i was getting into that sorta SQ I'd be spending $2-3k for the rest of the setup minimum?

Whilst i'd *may* be able to afford the splits I wouldn't have the amp and subs and sub amp to run the rest to make it worthwhile (in my mind anyways).

Already bought a pioneer 7650 (that sounds about right).

Slowly building her up :P

CKill -

Well I priced those and you're right. If I bought them I couldn't buy my subs hehe :)

They must sound great.

The Hertz ones are underpriced aren't they? I mean they're underpriced compared to the other two... They'd be comaprable to the lower range boston rc60's aren't they?

Also how do the Focal Polyglass v2 series 6.5" components go ?

Thanks for the reply guys.

Bogan which Alpines are they? It's really had to tell from the Alpine webpage which is suited to what. The Alpine SPR-176A and Alpine SPX-177R are the two from alpine I would be looking at so far.

I usually listen to hip hop, trance, breaks. I like heart thumping bass but I will also take SQ over SPL if it's a choice. I just like to have my heart revived by the stereo if I can't find those little electrical plate things

I've always thought if I had the money I'd like to have the (unattainable) goal of creating the club experience in a car.

Fhrx - I've been admiring your work recently and I'm wondering if I could get a roundabout price for some work I'd like to do?

I usually install my own systems cos I prefer to save money but if possible I'd like to get some stuff done professionally and if it makes a saving of money I'd like to do some of the work myself. Would you consider listening to my plan and advising for the parts for the bits I could do myself so they "fit" with the bits I'd like done by yourself? (as well as sourcing some things for me) - If it's an all or nothing thing that's fine also

Yeah man ... the head unit has ample power to run em ... infact, I know someone with a set of type r's running off their deck too ... thes things are putting out 30-35WRMS of power eh ... not too shabby ... they need to have direct battery links on them to run ...

ok, this goes for all audio related questions...LISTEN TO THE SPEAKERS! if it sounds good to you, then it is good, your gunna be listening to it, so get what you think is good...people have diff oppinions on all speakers, best to make up your own mind and have what you like mate...

i didnt mean for that sound like a rant or anything, but this is the best way to get what you want...

i just got 4" fusion splits for my car (free :)) and they go pretty hard aye!

Thanks for the advice! I dig man - I indend of shortlisting a few speakers so I can audition them then make up my mind.

I asked cos I wanted to know if there were any particular quality issues, value on prices etc all those sorts of decision making input you don't get if you just walk into strathos and ask them for a fully sick xplod speaker :P

On the other it's exactly right.. my ears, my cars, my money and therefor I'm not going to buy speakers PURELY on someone's recommendation.

Go any recommendations on stores that carry all quality speakers mentioned in this post?

I will prolly be looking this weekend.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
