Queensland SAU members club suggestion box

Recommended Posts

I could say more.. but I'll just skip straight to the end. This is not an attack, just some constructive criticism of what may help things in future.

The club as a "club" has to operate a bit like a democracy for it to be successful. I think just at the moment there is a bit of a general perception (correct or not) that its been run a bit as a Dictatorship up until now. With people making decisions and others not having privvy to that or how the decisions are being made. Not of course knocking those who have gone out of their way to organise things, which have been successful.

People need to have input, or at least feel like they can input, or the masses get restless. And I think this is maybe what we've seen in the past, or recently.

I think the mountain run / shenanigans / etc which have caused controversy will be settled quite simply. So that shouldn't pose to be a problem with SAU in the future. And I do know there has been a bit of animosity between those that have participated in those and others who don't wish to participate. Its a fair call - SAU should be for 100% legal activities only.

Would be good to have an executive rock up to meets...could be a way to discuss problems/events/likes/dislikes in person rather than via phone or pm, its just a much more personal way and thus being they can get to know the financial members better on a more social basis rather than by nickname and car. Obviously most people have commitments outside the club like family and work. I would suggest trying to get members with more flexible time or someone who plans ahead and knows when there free and when there not.

I would like to see events where people such as myself who dont have a license be able to take part in events, like as mark suggested gokarting although Mike's efforts to organise a kart day were great, he's struggling to get numbers. What about starting poll to see what events people want?? rather than taking stabs in the dark at what they may like. At least with these types of events family members can get involved.

Anyway there my thoughts.

I personally believe that at least one executive should be at each "major" event. Thursday nights are cool if no one turns up, cause it's jsut a meet and greet and drive, nothing major.

But on a more serious note like the "massive skyline cruises" and the dyno day, not one executive turned up. I was actually quite cranky at that. Especially on the last MSC where there were 77 potential members for the club and no exec showed? Even if the club wasn't finalised, it still would have been a great marketing point to hand out flyers on the current state of the club.

I'm sorry to say, but I agree with Adrian and others on the whole "exec's not showing" at events thing. Even if you don't like a cruise down the coast, jump in someone elses car so you don't have to drive. And it's not that hard to stand around and watch cars get dynoed (specifically being a sponor's workshop and no exec shows). I understand people are busy and have lives/family, but we aren't all asking for all three to show, just one.

Just my 2cents too.

I've posted up a thread in Events re a cruise out west toward Warwick/Toowoomba, if you're interested in that, feel free to comment. The short version: cruise with plenty of stops and photo opportunities, families invited :)

I'd thought about making it one of these 'follow the clue' events, but a cruise out west doesn't really give too much scope due to lots of nothing for long periods of time, and the danger of being stranded miles away from anyone if you miss a clue or something. Offer suggestions or just ignore me, either way I'll be listening :)

chaos - seems you are implying that there is something untoward about me opening up the position now that we have launched. Please elaborate we would all love to hear it.

strutto - in trying to make a point in favour of me/an executive member being at all/most events, you've actually done the opposite. Yes you expect the president to attend parliament, but do you expect him to attend the local 'young liberals' or 'gold coast city council annual general meeting?' ...... no.

I love the dictatorship comment, that is one of the best things i've read in ages. to quote predator : "With people making decisions and others not having privvy to that or how the decisions are being made." What decisions are you talking about? You must be seriously paranoid, as this is one of the most insane things i've heard in a while. We had to stop mountain runs being organised on here, but thats it. I cannot think of any other decision we have had to make like that recently anyway, let alone any that would make this seem like a dictatorship!? When was the last time a decision by the SAU excecutive affected you in a negative fashion, dictator style? That comment is actually quite funny, as all we have done is hook up sponsors, get shirts sorted, get registered as a non-profit organisation etc. What we have been doing is called working and spending money to give you all what you want. Dictatorship.....yep, that Gary guy sure does make a lot of draconian laws and boss everyone around and make life hell......

The lack of appreciation for having access to discounts for brakes, tyres (qld wide), mechanical, parts, and even the purchase of a car as a members so overwhelming, thank you.

Fine i will say what i know some people have been thinking.

Your not well liked slip, im sorry to say, Here you go on about how much time/effort/money you have along with gary put into this club and simply give up once its done.

and what right do you have to have a go at strutto like that, as erin said NOT 1 exec. rocked up to the big skyline cruise, NOT 1 exec. rocked up to the dyno day which im quite sure erin put a hard effort in to organising with our sponser, what kind of leadership is that??? Is it too much of a hassle to come and say hi and hang around for 30mins or so and mingle with YOUR financial members, members who some have been waiting a very long time to see this club finnaly on its feet and going.

I am saying what is on my mind and has been for a very long time, I DONT LIKE YOU, you simply crossed the line (yes im bringing this back up) when i was singled out for not owning a skyline.

here you go

I DONT OWN A CAR AT ALL.

When i first signed up i asked you when the club will be official.. you said a few months, this was almost 2 years ago.

Now go ahead say what you think about me i couldnt honestly care anymore.

You guys are going about this all wrong, slip and gary must have done a lot of work that no one else voluenteered for and now that we are seeing the fruits of their labour, we condem them, not too good a look I have to say.

I am not saying that anyone is doing anything right or wrong, but at the moment all we are doing is trying to move the club forward by pulling it in a million different directions all at once, why dont we just all try to pull it in the same direction, wouldn't that be easier?

ba!! you totally take it in the the wrong way. What I was getting at is for the last 6 months since i have been up here, I have not seen one "who might you want to suggest as sponsors so they can be approached?", "who is going to be the assume core roles or what might those roles?", "what activities would you like the club to take?", and the like. These decisions to me, were made with absolutely zero consultation with those other than yourself, Revhead, and Gary. I am not saying they are in the wrong or negative decisions, but simply that is what it appears to be a autocracy.. And I still have not noticed "ok, now the club is established, this is how you can all participate in the future direction if you wish to do so" or this is how you can choose who does lead the club in future. Its just opening up the process for others to participate in which has been lacking.

anyhow, this is all pointless from whatever side. Like Ska is saying, lets move on and think of some positive things.

I really dont think he (or erin) was suggesting you should be at every thursday meet, or even attend a full "special event"... But just someone waving the flag and showing up, even if just at the meeting point for a few minutes, would be some good P.R. I reckon?

AFAIK ... The decisions people wanted to be involved in were exactly what you've just mentioned ... sponsors, club name, shirt design, etc. Seeming as though I've only recently started spending any time in here (after a long period of absence) I dont know how much input everyone had over those decisions.

Not that the decisions have affected anyone in a negative way, but once you start giving money for something you take a lot more of an interest, and like to give a lot more constructive(normally?) critisicm, towards what is being done. Once its a paid group, you like to feel your money gives you an equal right to everyone else whos paid money to have a say in whats going on. Without that option, you get cranky and whinge on teh intarweb I suppose.

Either way, I think everyone appreciates what youve done, they just want to be more in the loop is all. Even just a thread updating decisions and suggestions? Prehaps open invitation meetings every now and then? Having a rant at anyone who disagrees is not a good way to top off all the great work you've done in the past :)

hat was the matter with this way for the club that way we can have atleast 1 or 2 people from the head of the club at meets or whatever, i think we do need some ore people to help run things.

but gary, slip and revhead have tried hard to get this club up and running but for us to move on and be happy, we need some more head guys in the club that can organise the meets and be there.

i understand that people have lifes outside the club but i do agree that the head guys of the club should make to the meets, or some of them

    • jeebus. glad you weren't under it while performing the stunt. Also thanks for the link to the wheel measurer, exactly what I needed
    • In the older stuff there were very significant differences 2wd to 4wd, for example Stagea had strut front end for 2wd and double wishbone for 4wd so it was not minor to swap. From poking around the 2wd v37, it *looks* like it might be more possible; some of the parts specifically have "2wd" stamped on them which suggests the platforms are more similar. You'd still want to start with a 4wd half cut to swap stuff from though. I'd suggest if you don't have a tune on the ECU you don't really need one on the trans either. Throttle mapping is in the ECU side (and you can always use a Roar Pedal if you want the throttle to actually respond to your foot), and really if you are happy with the stock power you probably accept the stock trans behaviour too....its all made to be "sporty" not racey.
    • So, updates. I have not washed the car since it came back from Tassie. I've driven it around a bit but not got around to actually sorting it out. I DID raise it because I cracked the rear bar leaving a hotel which was very distressing. Interestingly, the car drives more compliant now that it's raised a fair bit (5mm front, 15mm rear). Also noticed that my FR height was 10mm lower than FL. So that's now sorted out, too. I also bought this and had it printed: https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/1576422240/wheel-and-tire-fitment-tool-universal?ref=shop_home_feat_1&dd=1&logging_key=08f604d9fa4cc383550ba985e6ac85cd5cac7fbb%3A1576422240 Now, if I was smart I would have taken my brake calipers off to actually use this correctly but it was evident enough to me that in the region where the caliper was... there was nothing to hit suspension/guard/arm wise. So I'm going with "it'll be fine" after using the tool to hopefully very precisely measure the wheel clearance. Also while doing this, I had the very VERY bad idea of jacking one of the wheels/suspension arms up while the rest of the car was on jack stands. I did this to see how the arm would travel. This all was well and good until the car slid off the stands and went through a fence. So don't do that. Incredibly nobody was hurt and there was only minor damage to the rear bumper as the car didn't have far to slide, and had 3-4 wheels on it. The only damage turned out to be the fence itself which was easy to fix, and a little bit of damage to the fibreglass rear bumper trim. I had already planned to try a touch up paint kit to fix the time I drove into my garage door to see if it'd help in the interim before I get it fixed properly. I used the Dr Colorchip kit after looking online and seeing everyone talking about it. Yes it's made for chips and not huge broken missing pieces and I'll be 500% recommending it for stone chips after using it for stupid things like me. This took about ... 10 minutes and looking at the half assed photo the 30 second job I did on the bumper corner was almost perfect just by using the tiny little brush and painting it in. The sealact stuff to remove over-painting is really useful, so if/when I do it again I'll likely slather the touch up paint well over it and then clean it up with the cleaning solution. The wheels should arrive in a couple of weeks. I am still kinda confident after doing a stupid amount of measuring (and borrowing a set of 18x10.5+15) that they will not fit because I overlooked something, somehow and flew too close to the sun. ALSO R34 GTR guard liners do not fit on a GTT. I bought the undertray brake duct guides and had the wonderful problem of them not fitting my intake, my oil cooler and the liners themselves were even worse. Attempting to fit them won't work in general - You would have to cut them up as another poster mentioned as the bodywork is different on the GTT. At least I can try to resell them. So instead of cutting those up, I cut up my old already-cut-up GTT liners and extended them by using some PP plastic and drilling some 8mm holes for some nissan clips for the 'extra' bit. Because I was happy to cut them I was able to mount them pretty damn forward so I now have some semblance of guard liners, and the brake vents seal the bumper from the bottom. It sort-of-looks like this, to give some idea - If you look at the GTR and then the GTT this is when I realised that I needed to seriously measure as the inside of the rim area is entirely, entirely, entirely different and could not take any internet measurements for granted.
    • If you are Ecutek tuned then these TCU tunes are anywhere from $550 to $700 usd. If you are not ECUTEK tuned, then it gets costly!
    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
