Hi Everyone,

I recently bought my mum an R32 Skyline to go to and from work with. She bought me a car when I was 17 and sold hers, so now I have done the same for her as I now catch the train to work.

The catch is that I would like to be able to take this car out on weekends etc and be insured to do so.

All insurance quotes have been above $3000 with an excess of nearly $3000. I am 22 years old and have a spotless driving record. I am on my silver liscence.

Can anybody suggest the best way to get insurance with me as a nominated driver. She is currently on a policy paying $2300.

Have been quoted by Famous, Shannons, and NRMA. Was very disappointed with Famous as so many people have spoken so highly about them.

I have searched on this topic and couldnt find much information. Please forgive me for making yet another insurance thread.

Thanks

*first I am no Insurance broker, just giving advice from uni insurance law and experience.*

so you bought R32 skyline for your mom for travel between work and home

Is this skyline under your name or your mom???registered to?

You would like to take out spin during weekends and would like to nominate yourself...

I think its depends on Percentages and youngest person operating vehicle, if you nominate as addtional driver to that vehicle and they(insurace) will ask you who is youngest person driving the car... so I assume there isnt much difference between nominating mom or yourself...

Do search on INSURANCE BROKER and just explain your situation

cheers

Joe

Hey mate, i suggest Elder's car Insurance. They will only insure people over 25, but as long as the main driver is over that age you can nominate drivers under 25. Dont have a number on me but just dig around. They're the ones who also have the real estate business and stuff as well.

My insurance is with them under my dads name (60% NCB) and i'm on the policy as well (well under 25) The cars a turbo '96 R33 and its only $1440 full comp good luck!

Hi p1r4t8r, just out of interest did Elders insure your car with or without other insurance?

I recently started working for Elders in Melbourne about 2 months ago, and from what I have learnt that Elders can't offer the good prices unless they have supporting business.

Although my boss can also act as a broker and find out what is the best.

Take it Easy

P.S your Mum must be very proud, she also must be one of the coolest mums ive heard of to cruize in a 32

$2300 with just your mum on the quote seems ridiculously high for a 32......

Might be unlucky and just live in a region where you are at high risk which leads to high insurance costs.

Have you tried Just Cars? They were a hell of a lot cheaper with their quotes than anyone else. 2nd Closest being famous who were really helpful but couldn't match Just Cars at the end of the day.

  • 4 weeks later...

im a 19 yr old driver with a na 33. got quoted 2400 for full comprehensive from just car, which is bloody rediculous. I then got quoted 800 for fire and theft where the maximum claim could be 5000. WTF is goin on with just car??? i thought they were half decent, its easier to get comprehensive with HBF who did it for 1800 because of a "case by case" decision.

    • @Murray_Calavera iam just considering options 🙂 of course it is very expensive so that why i ask here 🙂  @joshuaho96 I looked at that GCG hybrid(i remember looking at it few weeks before) So this is "that" hybrid where i send them my turbo and they upgrade the inside to Garrett stuff and then they send it back. It cost around 1200-1300 USD which is FAR cheaper than the HKS and it is what iam looking for(i just do not have experience like this...to send something off to "upgrade" ) @tylink720 that is like 150 USD turbo no? 😄 I dont think i have the "ease on my mind" with this kind of turbo. I just put over 7000k USD to "LINK" up my engine...dont want to blow it up with cheap turbo 😄     EDIT: https://www.cj-motor.com/gcg-turbo-charger-for-nissan-rb20det-rb25det-high?srsltid=AfmBOooVeOZ6CZ6r1AIv5m-KPaa6BvudIPJTY8LW78khkd-gQlsaCht9 I looked at this and it seems ok? It is that CGC hybrid and it costs around 1250 USD (with back shipping). Do any of you have experience with this hybrid on NEO turbo? I quickly look thru the forum/web and it seems very good.

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
    • The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
