Hey all.

I've heard conflicting (annecdotal) evidence 'bout both high flow sumps with "windage" trays and injectors.I know one V.nice R32 GTR in our area that has an aftermarket sump(brand?I can't remember)that had problems with the physical depth of the thing grounding out.Others have a rep' for having the baffles that'll only work in a straight line(i.e.:drag racing).I need extra capacity and baffles to stop oil starvation for track use...any ideas?

Equally,I'm looking at putting injectors of the 700cc range.I hear from various trustworthy sources that my Power FC wont like certain types of injectors(Sard comes to mind-something about weird impedence rates?)...Likewise:any info'?

With regards to sump baffling, why do you need an oversized sump? A standard sump will hold 5 1/2 litres comfortably and with the Tomei baffles and oil restrictors, I have never heard of a car going pop. Im still not 100% sure on why people need increased sump capacity...

As for injectors, the Sard 700cc's are a little 'wierd' to work out, but Ed is getting there with them, and once he finishes sussing them out on mine he should have the settings ready to punch straight into yours. The problem lies mainly with injector lag time, they lag a little more than Sard claim they do.

The idea behind more "litre-age" is the oil "works" less,therefore stays cooler...plus there's a greater volume in the sump at any given time,therefore less likely to "run dry" momentarily...I'll be running an oil cooler,too,so I'm just covering all bases.Don't want to fork out for a second rebuild!

I guess I'll owe you beers/favours,being that your car is being the test mule when it comes to injectors!So you're thinking the Sards will be OK?

The Trust kit for GTR's is very simple, it extends the sump downwards (reduces ground clearance) and has an extended pick up and a cylindrical baffle. It increases oil capacity by ~1.25 litres. The Performance Metalcraft sump we use has wings (so it does not reduce ground clearance) out both sides with one way doors and baffles. It does not need an extended pick up. It increases oil capacity by a bit over 2 litres.

In funtion there is really no comparison, a winged and baffled sump is by far a superior solution.

Question about fitting, engine out or not

It takes about the same amount of time to do it in the car, but there are no complications or risks. It is pretty hard to get the wiring wrong or damage the clutch if you don't take them out. I strongly suggest you jack up the car and have a look for yourself. Basically everything under and/or attached to the sump unbolts, so you remove all that stuff and there is easy access to the sump itself.

My suggestion is to have a chat to a few of your local workshops.

A larger sump is not a substitute for an oil cooler on the circuit, it doesn't matter how much oil you have in the sump, it will eventuially heat up. My personal recommendation is that an engine oil cooler is a must on ANY GTR that sees the circuit.

The Sards are going ok in mine, havnt had any major problems with them. Even on 22psi (the highest boost I will take them on standard pump fuel) ed has them setup good enough that they never see over 80% duty cycle. This will be reduced a little more as we work them out 100%, id say we've got them 90% worked out.

Ill also have to take you for another drive as the camshafts arrived today and should be going in tomorrow (along with the dreaded hks twin plate, so no laughing when i continually stall the car :()

Who tuned your car meshmesh? Everyone I spoke to, including some high profile sydney tuners all said Sard 700cc's were a bastard to get working properly

Got it all done at ICE Performance.. the only "minor" hickup which I can think of, was a "starting" issue, but was solved very quickly with a new more powerfull battery, sealing the connectors on the bosch pump (though a relay would have been better), and Nigel did some of his magic tuning with the Power FC for the injectors... But all was fixed, and nothing whatsoever was an issue, infact SAU member markr34gtr has SARD 700cc injectors in his 34GTR and at the moment he's pumping over 400kw at the wheels.

Maybe have a chat to Nigel at ICE or markr34gtr.

That's the first I've heard anything about the SARD injectors?? We had the 700cc SARD's on our GTR, with the Power FC, bosch 044 pump, HKS GT2530's etc etc.. never had a problem.

Yeah-keen to see what a difference they'll make:should be VERY noticable,from what I hear...And don't panic about the twin plate:you can get your own back laughing at my a** once mine has the triple plate AP Racing fitted up...

    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack. 
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
    • In my head it does make sense to be a fuel problem since that is what I touched when cleaning the system. When I was testing with the fuel pressure gauge, the pressure was constantly 2.5 bar with the FPR vacuum removed. When stalling, the pressure was going up to 3.0 bar (which is how it should be on ignition).
    • ECUtalk pages don't mention they support the ABS computer (consult port has more than one CAN), so you might just need a different scan tool. But, I would expect ABS is a different light to the brake warning/handbrake light, do you see an ABS light come on for a few seconds when you turn the key from ACC to IGN? But since you said: I'd have a look at the ABS sensors in the rear hubs to make sure they are not damaged, disconnected etc.
    • OK, if it idles at 1000+ with the AAC, its not an idle airflow problem. The cold start valve just gives extra air when the engine is cold, but you have enough air without it to idle at 1000. I think you are back to a fuel problem, sorry. Can you see the fuel pressure staying constant or does it drop as the revs drop to a stall?
