ok, so i'm looking at an intercooler kit, yes, from ebay

the one with the nice anodised pipes ...

i know that will need to cut some holes to install this, but my question is ... where are the holes to be cut ?

how thick is the metal to cut through ? is it structural in any way ?

i would imagine that this 'kit' would be a little better / less hassle to install due to the pre bent pipes, and it being a ready to go kit ....

i also like the idea of anodised pipes as oposed to the 'prone to rust' mild steel that a lot of people seem to use ....

i can see that if i go down the route of a 'using teh stock pipes' on an intercooler, it would take

a. a fookin' long time to install

b. wouldnt be able to hide an fmic from the mrs due to spending an entire weekend fitting it

c. would proly work out a similar cost ....

$850 seems ok for the kit ...

thoughts anyone ???

I'm guessing you're looking at a Hybrid kit.

There's only one hole you need to cut. Where you will be cutting is not a "structural" part of the car. A big hole saw will cut through it easily.

Depending on the one you get you might need to trim your fan. You'll also need to trim your front bar.

That's about it (if it's a Hybrid kit). I can post pics of the hole when i get home from work if you like.

wil..

Hey there,

Here are the photo's.

1. From inside the engine bay. You'll recognise the huge water bottle. :)

2. This is the other side of that hole. Drill from this side.

3. This is underneath the intercooler. Don't worry those little metal brackets aren't actually holding the intercooler up. They're holding it in place.

The top of the intercooler is actually bolted onto the front bar support. This support does need to be trimmed (I forgot to mention this earlier). It's also a little bit thick. So it's a pain. But if you've got the right tools you'll be fine.

excellent, thanks very much for that ...

just a couple of ebay items to get rid of and i'll get me one of these kits ...

I did have a look at that installation guide, but its way too much 'making it fit' it so many different pipes to weld / cut / join etc etc, would much rather prefer pipes that won't rust, and only having to hack away some front bar and trim ...

Cheers

    • Out of curiosity, how do you cover up the inspection hole? Surely it doesn't sit open like that, right? With grime and dirt coming in and oil going out?
    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything
