Just a question. When you remove a camshaft does this mean that all valves (that were previously open due to the lobes pressure) close up automatically upon removal of the camshaft? Also which way do the cam pulleys spin by default? So if i wanted to advance or retard the timing...

Yes they do, and the pulley's spin clockwise viewed from the front, I believe.
