Well as i guessed they wont insure me... BUT they did give me a premium of $2600 on a rating 2 for a 1992 R32 GTS Turbo but it declined to process the policy... she said it was most likely because of my age and the type of car i was driving. Apparently it has to do with the risk involved of me in a "performance" car. Even tho i have no convictions, only 1 ticket and no previous accident claims. This was with an exhaust only as a mod and my alarm and immobiliser.

So i said to her that i would like a quote for another car...

1999 VT SS 5.7Litre with engine modifications 297kw at the fly

Yes they would insure me at $1670 even tho this car has double the power, no alarm or immobiliser.

yeah that makes sense... surely this is a sort of discrimination against ppl who drive Japanese imports... im too much of a risk to drive a 160kw skyline but when im behind the wheel of a 300kw tank im ok.

I said to her that maybe its becuase of the supposed rearity of them in the country and she said no (was an excuse i heard from one of their employees)... i asked if it was because the fact that it was an import... she replied with more the fact that there isnt much known about them... ok

BTW: yes they do have NON-Turbos on their books to give a quote for as when i was describing the type of car i said GTST and she got confused as all she could see was...

GTS

GTS Turbo

GTR

so whoever said they didnt have non-turbos on the quoting system is telling u stories.

its not ignorance its stupidity. the lady i spoke to was a customer relations consultant... in other words someone who speaks to pissed off people, the only reason i got her number was because of the letter i emailed them expressing my disposition at there stance on imports and their selectivity in insuring certain people and not others.

if you speak to an operator and they refuse... request to speak to their teamleader or supervisor... dont be a shit just request it calmly until you can.

maybe cos it'z import and it'z harder 2 get import partz for our car....Also maybe cos they want us to buy Australian carz rather then importz cos Australian carz lose value.........some shit like that I rekon.

i asked them if it was a factor that the parts are harder to get... (its not like they arent available ffs theyre just as common as WRXs if u ask me... also one they are now phasing out of insuring and that is a local import) and she said no.

its discriminatory i tell ya!! :)

Guest zerorespect

gentlemen....i am 1/2 way through a slab of beer and saw this thread and couldn't resist.....thos mofos

racv....forget them

as stated in previous posts..my insurance has gone up about $600 over the last 2 years with no claims or convictions on my prelude....

the repair work has been discussed in an earlier post....

house insurance has gone up...and lost complete coverage of my dvd collection....

to finance my gtr purchase i'm selling the prelude (tears) and the buyer (2nd time lucky) organised an racv test this morning for the car....was told to come back before 5pm this arvo to pick it up....get there at 5 to 5 and the place is locked up early for the long weekend........had to walk for 45 mins and then catch a bus home after knocking on doors and looking like a d!ckh3ad trying to look through 1 way glass.....they didn't even leave it out in the carpark so i cold use my spare set of keys to drive it home.....

if anybody knows how to manufacture a firebomb...and can compile the instructions such that a half bananas bloke can understand please post here...the fire insurance on my car is worth much more than the buyer is offering.....

    • LOL.... a good amount of people (not all) on that continent seem to know everything and like to measure things in bananas, football fields, statue of liberties instead of the metric system lol.
    • I assume the modules are similar enough, so if you've had no issues I don't see why I would. I have tried to find a wiring diagram for the FPCM / fuel pump circuit, but I can't find it anywhere. Otherwise, I would just do some wire cutting and joining at the FPCM and give the 12 V supplied to the FPCM directly to the pump instead. If you know anyone that could help with wiring diagrams, I'd be very happy
    • If it dies, then bypass. The task isn't difficult. I have one running on a standard R32 FPCM. That's after nearly 20 years of it running an 040, which pull substantially more current than the Walbro. They're not the same module, but I'd hope it indicates that the R33 one should be man enough for the job. I think people kill them when putting proper sized pumps on them, not these little toy pumps we're talking about here.
    • Silicone spray won't hurt anything. And if it does, that's an opportunity to put some solid steel spherical bushings in, so you can really learn what suspension noise sounds like, If you're going to try it, just spray one bush at a time, so you can work out which one is actually noisy. My best guess is that if the noise started only since putting the coilovers in, then it is just noise being transmitted up through the top mounts of the struts, and not necessarily "new" noise from bushes. But it's almost impossible to know.
    • Are you saying the 34 is SUV height, and not that we're talking about an SUV here? (because if we're talking about an SUV, you don't fix them. You just replace them when something breaks. Not worth establishing sufficient emotional connection with an SUV to warrant doing any work on one). I wouldn't jack my car up on a short little loop of 10mm steel rod poking out through a hole in the bumper bar, front or rear end. I realise that we're probably not talking about that type of loop at the front, being the one under/behind the bar on a Skyline.... but even for that one, trying to jack up on what amounts to a thin piece of steel, designed purely for withstanding a horizontal tension force, not a vertical compressive force (and so would be prone to buckling/crushing) and, my most particular bitch about it - located RIGHT AT THE EXTREME FRONT OF THE CAR, applying a load up through the radiator support panel, etc, with almost the entire mass of the car cantilevered between there and the rear wheels? Nope. Not doing that. Not on the regular. That structure out there in front of the front crossmember is not designed to carry load in the vertical direction. Not really designed to carry any load at all, really. The chassis rail that the tow point is connected to would be fine loaded in tension, as per towing. Not intended to carry the mass of the whole car, especially loaded all on one rail, with twisting and all sorts of shitty load distribution going on. No, I will happily drive up on some pieces of wood, thanks. That can only happen on driven wheels, and they are at the other end of the car, and this problem does not exist at that end of the car. And even then, I have been known to drive up on at least 1x piece of 2x8 each side at the rear, simply to reduce the amount of jack pumping necessary to get the car up high enough for the jack stands. What really really shits me about Skylines is the lack of decent places for chassis stands at either end of the car. You'd think they'd be designed into the crossmembers.
