CR ended up about .4 below standard so about 8.6.

Went with the ARGO rods and yes 256 poncams with matching springs.

Had Colin lloyd (Headsense) do the head work as well as machine and assemble the engine. Hopefully i can find the time to complete the rest at home with the help of my old man.

A break down of the costs involved with the engine build for those interested.

CP pistons $1185

Rings $275

Straighten & Polish Crank $182

Bore & hone block $188

Deck Block $110

Balance $ 267

Overhaul head $590

Porting $810

New guides $237

Cometic gasket $362

Big end bearings (ACL race) $89

Main bearing (King) $72

Gaskets etc. $28

Thats a good price all up, where abouts did you get the work done?

Headsense (colin lloyd) at coopers plains. My only complaint with him was that it took a while before he got around to actually doing the work, he had my engine there for about 3 months. It's a one man workshop and he's pretty busy.

Yeah getting an engine built can test your patience, what made you choose him?

Does he have ALL the equipment to do the work on site?

Btw nice engine shot, looks really clean!

I went with him as previously i was getting most stuff done by Hardcore at slacks creek and i found out that he was the one that was doing all the headwork / machining for them so pretty much went straight to the source. He's pretty well known in drag racing circles and has been supercomp champion a few times now racing his own cars, you'll see his name across the top of the main stand at willowbank.

Putting the rest together and then putting it back in and hooking everything back up is the FUN part! Hooray. Then you will get it tuned and it will kill ya waiting to drive it. Leave the tuner in a nice cloud of white smoke all the way up the street....ohh such a good feeling when you got bulk power on tap :)

Cant wait till you post tuning results.

Still undecided with the tuning side of things. It will either be FIST performance or Mercury Motorsport. FIST have done all the work on my old mans XR6 turbo and they've looked after him very well but Mercury seem to have a better reputation around here.

I sent the plenum and rocker covers to be powder coated today. Have gone with gold for the rocker covers and textured black for them plenum. Pictures will be posted when i get them back. Hopefully they look ok.

powder coated hey. I know some people who hpc coat them...comes up pretty good. should look very nice.

Also mate, just wondering where did u find your v8 throttle body for the plenum. I could not for the life of me find one anywhere, and had to machine up an adapter plate to suit the std TB. Cheers.

    • Hey all, a little help from the Stagea hive mind plz.. I'm days away from buying either a 2002 Stagea 250tRS AR-X Four, premium leather, power seats and all the old switches etc that go with it, or a 2002 Stagea 250tRS VR-X Four AERO, pov pack, cloth seats etc, with coil overs, sports zorst, comes with original zorst and suspension and parts. (I think I've got the models right?) Both are VQ25DET, have 160000kms, both straight no rust both with $2000+ in recent servicing receipts, both ride on aftermarket 18" rims. The Aero has a replaced turbo as well. I like the cool factor of the Aero car but the AR-X has never been modified. Neither have been driven hardly at all in the last 5 years. Any thoughts on which one or does it come down to personal preference? davemoto
    • Please let me know if anyone has seen my black Nissan Skyline 350GT-8 taken from Robe Terrace, Medindie, SA suspect taken between end of March to early April 2025! Have called impound yards & tow truck operators, no where to be found while I was away overseas! Plates DXPRS1 custom dark green on yellow back. Has a rear lip boot spoiler on the back as well.
