Hi,

Well went to mechanic to get some stuff done, and he says to me,

'I can smell petrol from your car, it must be running lean, you need to change the fuel pump."

How much for you to do that i ask....

'$600'

Is there any truth in what he is saying or is he trying to 'upsell'.... I would of thought if you could smell petrol (which you can) the car would be running rich not lean...

Joh

Sounds like the mechanic is talking rubbish more like it. Did he mean raw fuel, or the thing running rich? If its raw fuel, you gotta leak. If it was running rich on idle, somethings up with your car, but it aint a fuel pump!

Were you dressed up like a woman when he told you this???

Coz it sounds like some bs a mechanic would tell a woman

Man, I bought my Bosch 800hp , Malpassi Reg, Pressure Guage and all new fuel lines for my rb20 for $600 (trade). $600 installed for a pump is not that much really. When you think about it, he would buy the pump for round $350 then he's gotta add his markup, then labour - around hour and a half including the mod to fit it. It would be quite easy to rack up $600. But are you running the standard regulator? coz if you are...the new pump will blast the crapper out of it and it won't run properly. You need an adjustable one. And the CA18t pump is probably gonna be a little too small to service that engine...just. I think it pumps like 20 litres per hour less than the rb20 item. Will the fuel smell though...you have to check all the obvious places. The tank(underneath). All the fuel lines. All the connections. Filler cap and breather hoses. Around the injector nozzles. See where you can physically smell it the strongest.

    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
