Optimax - Where Did It All Go???

Recommended Posts

Be very carefull using octane booster instead of 98 octane fuel. When it says on the octane booster bottle that it raises the octane level by 4 or 5 octane points that means .4 or .5 of an octane ie if you fill up with 95 octane and add an octane booster that raises the octane level by 5 points then the result is 95.5 octane fuel.

Still well below 98.

And double dosing isn't the solution either. Octane booster is designed to work in a certain ratio adding more than the recomended amount will no doubt increase the octane rating a little further, but a double dose doesn't raise the rating twice as much.

I learnt this the hard way. Luckily I only got audible detonation not detonation induced block ventilation

i use octaine booster with ultimate... just want to see if it makes a difference, the 1st time i used it i noticed it but the second time i used that nos in a can sh!t and i didnt notice n e thing, i cant remember what i used the 1st time

This is from a Shell employee who recieved a memo last nite while he was at work...

The Sydney refinery has broken somehow so Optimax and LRP will not be delivered for 2 weeks.

He isnt sure wether the new delivery will -arrive- in 2 weeks, or it will start to be shipped from the refinery in 2 weeks. Obviously what he told me isnt word for word what was in the memo, but it explains why Canberra has run high and dry of Optimax, and BP Ultimate is getting pretty low too (since everyones using that with no Optimax availible).

Doh!

"Shell Optimax out of stock.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, Shell is currently unable to supply Shell Optimax to all sites in NSW, ACT and Vic.

We aim to be back in stock from the 24th of November in Victoria and 27th of November in NSW and ACT.

Please accept our sincere apologies for this inconvenience.

I couldn't find any optimax either, I went all the way down Pennant Hills Rd.

what about going to Bankstown airport and buying a 205ltr drum of Jet fuel, supposedly its only around $1 a litre and put in a couple of litres every time you fill up. That should boost up the octane level and give you more power to....

Hi Guys,

Just some quick replys.. Cheers Poakey for clarifying the Octane booster issue I had. That would explain why my try at using Caltex Vortex + Octane booster didnt help. What a waste of $10 bux or however much it was. VL-TRBO-RB20, it wont work.

SW20-GT it would be fine if there was one in my area.. I will be trying to find a BP servo soon.

Interestingly, I was told that BP actually buys its fuel from Shell anyway.. Must have different storage facilities..

rrrage thanks mate thats what I was after.

Called up Shell at Dural this arvo. The guy said they'd be out for 2 weeks. So that confirms the Shell refinery problem.

I thought they had that fixed already....

Anyway, filled up with BP Ultimate instead today. 108.9c/litre..... not too bad.

wil..

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
