Defected - R32 GTS-T Front Bar Required

Recommended Posts

Was driving along gympie road at aspley last night (Driving PAST aspley, in the lane furthest away, 'coz i hate the place) and a cop ran in front of 2 lanes of traffic, causing them to skid to a stop, and ran in front of me with only just enough room to stop, to pull me in.. they then proceeded to be extremely rude, especially when they made me drive down an extremely steep driveway and laugh at me as it scraped all along my front bar... made me park on a slope, where the ground was uneven under the front bar and then tried to measure the height... i asked them if they could please measure it on level ground as the ground was uneven (my front bar is right on 100mm) and he went off, saying not to argue with him, he's a cop and he can do anything he likes, tellin me to shutup, etc etc... in the end he fined me for having a parker out (which i didn't know about) and thats the only thing he could find, and then he sent me to the pits, where i had to wait for 2 1/2 hours (until midnight) and in the end i got a $75 fine and 1 point for having a parker out, and a notice to raise the front of the car, because it was "5MM" too low... i mean, 5mm, geez, get ur hand off it guys.

Oh, and they also tried to pin me, saying that i had gutted my brand new (like less than a month) old 3" highflow cat because it had "welds around the flanges" What a bunch of tossers..

On a positive note though, there was a bike cop there who i had a good chat to while i was waiting and he was a really nice bloke.

He let me know that in a few weeks time, they're bringing out new laws about exhaust noise... at the moment he said its about $45 and 1 point fine if your exhaust is too loud... in a few weeks the fine is going up to around $350 (or more, i can't remember the exact figure now) and he said "a few points, we don't know exactly how many yet, but probably around 3"

Just thought i'd let u guys know, so u can attend to ur exhaust noise before it gets too late :(

Glad to see this is where my $6380 tax payout on top of my PAYG this year went to work. Nice one coppers, glad to see your taking the 'to serve and protect' thing pretty seriously.

That's f**ked up... But do I expect anything less in today's times? NO...

At the end of the day, if your car is illegal, there is nothing you can do... But enforcing draconian laws like 100mm clearance does NOTHING to raise my respect for Police... 100mm or 95mm... Either way, the drunken bum who walks in front of you is gunna get creamed...

And whats with parking lights anyway? How the hell are they "required" for safe and environmentally friendly motoring? 1 point & $75 for that is ridiculous... Who's to say the light didn't blow 5 minutes ago when it was hit by a rock flung up from a 1 meter pothole that QLD Transport hadn't fixed?

And exhaust noise? Tell em to hunt down the Harleys first...

Clap, clap, clap for QLD's finest...

Hmmmm, how the fvuk do they think the flange attaches to the pipe work, with glue? It's pretty funny when they're trying to sound hardcore lol :(

A bike cop that was a good bloke? Far out, there is a first time for everything :D

By the way, 5mm... Mabey you should leave the car on jackstands overnight, fill the tank to 1/4 full, and empty out the glovebox :)

hey jason u can take it on with the courts & more then like win due to the fact that he was extremly rude & didn't do his job fully (taking mes on uneven ground & not taking it into account) u will have his officer number on the ticket & also get a pic of where they took the mes at

They coppers really don't like it when u make them look dumb asking how many cyclinders dose it have when its a rotor lol

My self & my bro are mechanics my bro has his road worthy cert as a mechainc so yeah we both know I stuff

not good Jason...hope it works out for you...have u thought of maybe just detaching the bottom lip? cos if it's the same bar as mine which it looks like it is in your avatar the bottom lip part is seperate and u can take it off quite easily which will easily get you to legal height :)

Guys one thing you can do in Queensland is to grab a small tape recorder and if your pulled over tape the conversation. All traffic cops are running a tape and if they book you and you fight it your within your rights to ask for a copy of the tape. It is quite amazing how their attitude will change if they know your taping them :-). If you can tape for a while (while your being abused) then let them see the tape and watch them change tune in some cases they may even let you go.

sorry to hear about what happend mate

sooner or later teh cops are gonna defect a mass murderer or somethin and get knocked the **** out. mabye they might chill out then espically if its made public ;)

well friday night i was driving down newmarket rd on the way to the city for a night out. I completely forgot that harry's diner was probably gonna have a few cops hanging round, cruised past casually, then as i got to the lights on bowen bridge rd a copper pulls up beside me in an unmarked commo and tells me to pull over onto the side of the road on bowen bridge rd. Goes over my car, rbt's me, license check, then defects me cuz of my rear number plate. You know how the s13's dont quite fit the whole number plate?? You have to bend it slightly to fit and that's what i'd done. So i got fined.

They are getting ridiculous. I mean i can see the point if someone is being a tool, then pull them over and go over there car, but for someone who is completely sober not being a tool and following all road rules then i don't see why i can't even drive down a road without being harrassed. This is gonna reach a point where people are just gonna start rioting or something as its just going too far. Sure, target the idiots in modified cars, but the people who take it to the track like myself and behave on the streets don't need this shit when money is tight and you just want to go out and see your friends in town.

Sorry guys, it just really shit me off and i had my whinge now!

As posted in another thread by someone in the VIC section...

My thoughts are why did he pull you over since u were being sensible and all?

Is it simply the recent "lets pull over imports / round tail light cars and give them a once over" rule??

Very frustrating knowing that a skyline owner has a much greater chance than any other car of being pulled over for a random check for no particularly reason at all ;)

I too know all about this having been pulled over while driving home in peak hour traffic for purposes of going over the car. Didn't get a defect or anyhting and the officer was an ok bloke but it begs the question why was i targetted for no apparent reason and for how long will this continue??

It's getting beyond a joke...

I think it has gone a bit too far...

I drive past Aspley Maccas regularly, why, cause a friggin live near there. The bacon have decided to crack down on imports, cause they stand out from the normal commonwhores that most of them drive.

I am just glad that I won't be here around Chrissy/ New Years cause then they will REALLY crack down.

As for the number place thing, that really is a friggin joke, how the hell can a car get registered and pass a safety certificate with the plate the same and then they fine you for it..bunch of tossers at times. Unfortunately, like the bogans out there, some ruin it for most!!

Yeah, i haven't done any mods to my car (its exactly as it was when i bought it... i actually REMOVED the Atmo BOV etc and put on the standard recirculating one) and i told the police this, and they said "no it wasn't, you did all this... there's no way a caryard would sell a car like this"

    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
    • So, what else.... Power. I don't know what it is making because I haven't done a post tune dyno run yet; I will when I get a chance. It was 240rwkw dead stock. Conclusion from the day....it does not need a single kw more until I sort some other stuff. It comes on so hard that I could hear the twin N1 turbos on the R32 crying, and I just can't use what it has around a tight track with the current setup. Brakes. They are perfect. Hit them hard all day and they never felt like having an issue; you can see in the video we were making ground on much lighter cars on better tyres under brakes. They are standard (red sport) calipers, standard size discs in DBA5000 2 piece, Winmax pads and Motul RBF600 fluid, all from Matty at Racebrakes Sydney. Keeping in mind the car is more powerful than my R32 and weighs 1780, he clearly knows his shit. Suspension. This is one of the first areas I need to change. It has electronically controlled dampers from factory, but everything is just way too soft for track work even on the hardest setting (it is nice when hustling on country roads though). In particular it rolls into oversteer mid corner and pitches too much under hard braking so it becomes unstable eg in the turn 1 kink I need to brake early, turn through the kink then brake again so I don't pirouette like an AE86. I need to get some decent shocks with matched springs and sway bars ASAP, even if it is just a v1 setup until I work out a proper race/rally setup later. Tyres. I am running Yoko A052 in 235/45/18 all round, because that was what I could get in approximately the right height on wheels I had in the shed (Rays/Nismo 18x8 off the old Leaf actually!). As track tyres they are pretty poor; I note GTSBoy recently posted a porker comparo video including them where they were about the same as AD09.....that is nothing like a top line track tyre. I'll start getting that sorted but realistically I should get proper sized wheels first (likely 9.5 +38 front and 11 +55 at the rear, so a custom order, and I can't rotate them like the R32), then work out what the best tyre option is. BTW on that, Targa Tas had gone to road tyres instead of semi slicks now so that is a whole other world of choices to sort. Diff. This is the other thing that urgently needs to be addressed. It left massive 1s out of the fish hook all day, even when I was trying not too (you can also hear it reving on the video, and see the RPM rising too fast compared to speed in the data). It has an open diff that Infiniti optimistically called a B-LSD for "Brake Limited Slip Diff". It does good straight line standing start 11s but it is woeful on the track. Nismo seem to make a 2 way for it.
