josh303
hey, Im getting a new diff center in my car, i'v gotto change ratio to 3.9:1 and i didn't want to use the same crappy single spinner center. it's going to be $680 for gears (pinion & crown wheel) and i wont get any change out of $1500 to change to an LSD. so i was thinking about going to a detroit locker as they can stand about 600 horse's, wont wear out and unlock around the corners. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with these diffs and roughly how much it cost them?? timbar32
My mate had a mini-spool in his vl w/rb20. Nice launches, but chewed tyres if you ever need to corner lol... and don't even try high speed cornering....Cops didn't like it either, but if he told them it wasn't welded, they'd usually let him go. Cizza
Mini spool's are ****ed... Parking is annoying, car feels so cheap whilst twitching about.. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/56898-detroit-locker/#findComment-1100803 Share on other sites
dangerous_daveo
I thought detrots were locked under power? So going round a corner they would lock up if powering in/out of it??? I have a 2way, and I know every time I move my foot off the go pedel it turns better, quite bad at times. Cizza
Yeah, detroit lockers aren't the same as minispools I was referring to minispools. All the lockers i've seen have been on v8's, and they light em' up on launch Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/56898-detroit-locker/#findComment-1100995 Share on other sites
HypeR33
I have a locked diff in my 33. They are great for lighting up, and only have a problem on very light throttle, or part cluch turns, like car parks, or 3 point turns. Other than that I have no problem with mine. Although the twitching on those tight cornering is annoying, it really is a give and take. Good for performance. Had no problems with chewing the tyres...but that was probably because it has that much camber all round, that I had to replace the tyres before it became a problem. REDFC
Detroir lockers are only used for drifting/Drag Racing. They create understeer. Get a 1-way LSD with heavy duty clutches (?? i think ?? ) They are best all rounder and can hold upto 500bhp. race_snooze
Ok i have to comment I have a 2 piece rachet locker in my r33 with 200rwkw, I have no understeer as someone else has said earlier (not having a go at anyone) the only prob with them is the noise of them when there is no load and turing they clunck, they are also not cheap. They also have a bit of a tendecy to scrub out the tyres. All and all yes they are best suited to high HP and race tracks. josh303
thanks guys, i think im gunna put the detroit locker in it, just have to find some axles then i'l be on the way, why not put the best in it straight away then forget about the diff? i wont mind about the noise as long as the wheels keep going around! cheers Josh Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/56898-detroit-locker/#findComment-1110632 Share on other sites

browny
I've seen 1.5 way KAAZ centres listed for the BW78 series diff as found in commodores VL-VS. Although i'm not sure whether the 25 spline diffs found in some of the VL range are compatible. RiverSide
You will know pretty quick if it is a welded diff........a mechanical diff will clunk etc. and mech won't skip the tyres when slowly going around a sweeping corner....welded diff wil as there is NO "give" in it at all.
