Adjustment of Lifters

Hey Guys,

First of all, I am assuming the RB26DETT has solid valve lifters as opposed to hydraulic.

If so, how often are adjustments of said lifters required?

yeah, they have shimable buckets from memory.

generally in normal conditions every 50000 would suffice but if you are giving it a hard time then you should probably check them out every 20000. You should be able to get different thickness shims to set your gaps. It's a lot of stuffing around but if you know what you're doing then you shouldn't have a problem.

Is it bad not to adjust them? Would this cause the cams to 'wear' faster? My knowledge of the internal workings of an engine is strictly armchair.

it does cause some excessive wear if you let them get too bad but if they aren't making any noise then you won't be damaging anything. if you give me your address I can send you the GTR manual on cd which describes the operation in detail.

Nissan sell the shims @ about $25 each and the manual states the tolerances. Good luck but if they are not sounding noisy it's hardly worth the effort.
