Hey, just wondering where S'Coasters get their Skylines serviced/tuned? Anyone had any good/bad experiences with anyone in particular on the Coast?

What about mods? Where does everyone get upgrades done?

(apologies if this has been covered before - I did a quick search and couldn't find any recommendations for S'Coasters)

well ive heard kawana auto service (just behind kb auto) used to do work for steve jensen motors when they were an import yard at currimundi, but just servicing and stuff, but i wouldnt go to any1 on the coast for mods, not worth it really, many have tried and failed, and alot who claim to be mechanics for imports dont know alot. u are better off going to as reputable place in bris or goldy. there is one guy named (george may, GMR george may racing) at kunda park , dont know if he knows alot about the rb engine but he knows about the sr20. hes a good bloke hes an engineer, does good work, they do engine conversions and stuff. another engineer is kv's performance in sugar rd, hes into v8's but he does engineering work aswell, hes done some nice cars up. so if u ever want an engineer for anything to get built try these guys.

well...the only serviced i've done to my car recently was to change air filter, oil and oil filter and flush coolant...which pretty much done by myself.

frankly though,..i wouldn't trust any mechanic around the coast to touch my RB engine... but that's just due to past experience...sometimes they do good job,.but most of the time they tend to fix something and next thing you know,.another problem occurs...i'm not sure if being done purposely just so you come back and spend some more bucks on them.

Darren,..yeah i heard of george may.,.he was the one who did my friends starlet..but haven't really heard if he does RB engines.

well...im just waiting for my power FC and my 800HP turbo and my 550cc injectors/fuel pump to arrive...once evrything's organised...i'm heading down to either Millenium motorsport or Mercury down at brisbane for a fine tune.

LOL.... ha ha darren...yeah,.. that was nathan who used to own that TOXIC starlet..used to be the quickest one around.. but he sold that one ages ago to our boss..you might still see it around rarely..but NO..he doesn't drive a WRX wagon..but a MAGNA wagon.. he sold that to get his 1st house pretty much..but from time to time,.he borrows the starlet and take it for some serious belting.

which i will be doing in a couple of days...i'd be headin down noosa to take me car for some serious belting...u should join me if u get the chance.

oh yeah, we raced him in my mates starlet when quinton was driving it and we kept up with it. then it got rolled or sumthing agaes ago. oh well, my mate said he saw nathan driving a orange wrx wagon when he was on the way beck from the goldy. maybe he borrowed it?? or maybe it wasnt even him just sum1 who looked like him anyway, what are ya doing in noosa and when?? i work mon-fri 7am - 4.30pm and some saturdys till 12. i take it you were going to work on sunday when i seen you out. we just stayed on tha hill for most of the day and had a chat.

yeah...quinton rolled that one ages ago...must have been some1 looks like nathan...coz i'm pretty sure he has never driven a subaru..LOL.

actually i was on my break that sunday...i pretty much work the whole day but lucky enough for me i get a 2 hr break from work.,.,which is good enough for a couple of laps..but yeah when u saw us,.i was heading back to work...next time i see you up the hill,.i'll make sure i stop and say hi to you guys.

well..i get tuesday and wednesday off...so i'll be taking the car for a run on wednesday down at noosa for some serious belting...hopefully the weather permits though.

if i get the chance to have the sunday off...we should head down to the hinterlands for a cruize...i like the road down there..good for belting..he he.

Hey 85URK, to answer your question from another thread, I'm driving a wine red R33 with 77-SDF plates... you would probably have seen me driving like a mad man through the Nicklin Way traffic... :)

I have only taken my Skyline to Kawana Auto Service since I've had it (coz it's within walking distance to work, plus I also found out that Jensen/import thing about them as well), but would like to do a few things like extractors, air filter/pod filter etc., and I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to working on the Skyline...

is your car the turbo model?? if you want an exhaust, the guys at caloundra exhausts are great guys, they will help you out with anything u want. if you want a custom made exhaust. and for an airpod filter just go to auto barn and get an adaptor plate and a k&n filter and go home and remove the standard airbox , hook the adapter plate to the air flow sensor box (the little black box before your standard airfilter box) and then fit your airpod to that. too easy! anyway mite see you round town. if ya see me round giv us a wave.

On a fairly stock setup without any additional ventillation under the hood, wouldn't a pod just be sucking hot air from the engine bay? That's the only reason why I haven't looked at one... (but let me know, coz I am fairly new to this)

yeah true that... but with a tiny mod..it should be alright...read thru some post on here about CAI partitions.. some actually make use of the old box..under it is a hole and outside air can go thru it.

check the DIY section about CAI.

i'm using a nismo right now and i plan to locate that somewhere where it can suck better air from the outside..i'll show you once its done.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
