Afternoon All

I have stumbled across the time to get me a FMIC. Ive got 2 options a GTR cooler or a Hybrid cooler thats the same size as a GTR cooler but nearly twice as thick.

Now im liking the idea of the Hybrid because of its thickness. But ive got mixed opinions off people aying hybrid is sh!t and other people raving about them, and the same thing with the GTR cooler.

If you were in my shoes what would you do?

Cheers, thanks for your time!

Since its going on an RB20.. Get yourself a Hybrid Copy intercooler.

INASNT has a RB25 with atleast 300rwkw on 20psi and uses a HYBRID COPY!

They are great coolers, just make sure you get good quality end tanks.

The core's are all similar.

just to add, i was the same hearing alot of bad stuff bout hybrid but i put one on mine and it is great, still had ppl say how crap they were (they didnt have hybrid coolers on just talked) until i showed them the dyno sheet how much it improved and they actually do flow well....

ben...

i just fitted one to my coupe.. originally it was chrome ..bought from modyourcar.com.au ..... anyways i painted it flat black with some hi temp good quality paint....looks good enough to me

see for yourself how it ended up..

cooler_mounted2.jpg

since installing it ..i lost 1psi ..but it pulls so much harder and alot for consistantly.. the power comes in alot more linear than it did with the standard one .(where it was sharp and went away when it got warm)

plus with places like Newkon.biz in the traders section selling em for 350bucks deliever.. shit ..its a no brainer i reckon.. plus that chitch selling factory 2nds from like 230bucks.......

just waiting to see how long it takes for the hybrid copy cats to start selling unbranded "latest" from hybrid ..the tube and fin jobs.

Anyways.... my point of the post...... get a hybrid style cooler.... bang for your buck

cheers

matt

go the Hybrid mate. The piping is so much easier to get. Most kits come with them.

I have got a GTR cooler sitting in my bedroom and I'm having a hell of a time trying to find piping for it. Places can make it up but they want $1350 to do it.

I have used R33/34 GTR intercoolers up to 300 rwkw without problems. I make up my own pipework, but I can't see how the pipework for one 600 X 300 intercooler would differ anyway. The only issue may be the silicone joiners at the end tanks, but their prices don't vary much.:(

I've got a hybrid copy on mine.. and am happy with it.

but next car that I do an intercooler for I will use the GTR R33/34 cooler.

I just think that being tube and fin it will let more air to the radiator (Not that I have any heating issues at the moment with the hybrid copy bar and plate)

AND

I like the end tank design of the gtr cooler much better than the ones found on the hybrid and copies.

AND the gtr tube and fin ones are lighter.

its not that hard, if you've got necessary cutting tools you can fit it all up, tape in place, mark the joins in the pipes and then take it somewhere to get welded if you can't do it yourself.

yep thats what i did ..did the entire install myself...cost me 135bucks in material mild steel 2.5inch its pretty easy if u have the tools and a clue. :P

its not really lag in some cases.. its throttle response as there is more volume for air to travel to the throttle body.

.. lag refers to turbo spool time.. thats what i think anyways

Matt

That is why we have setups with NO intercooler, or V mount/top mount setups! with water spray!

    • Big enough for you, Jackie, and some puppers mate! I vote some GSDs, but I am biased   How big of a block is it on?
    • Well, fun day was had, I finally found a house that will do me just fine, 1980's brick build, but with full fresh renovations, plus new colour bond fencing all round so puppies are incoming 🐕, and water tanks for the garden, and it's located in West Goulburn..... @Duncan 🫡, so day trips to Wakie to watch cars going Zoom will be on the cards In the end it cost well under my budget and was actually better than alot of the more expensive joints I was looking at, it is in a good area, close enough to the shops, public transport, and the Wollondilly River Weir,  and the great walking paths along the river, but far enough away from town to see minimal traffic The deposit is dropped, the conveyancer is conveyancing and I should get the keys in a week or 2 as the property is currently unoccupied  As with everything I own, I'm doing up a modifications list, as it doesn't have solar, that is first up on the big list, all of the panels and enough batteries to keep the joint warm, or cool, followed by a largish carport out the front, the small list, which will start as soon as I have keys, is some security stuff, like cameras, screens, and the usual "crazy prepper" additions that weird old people like (mouse holes to stick shot guns out of, and the usual man traps that the average person installs for the unsuspecting and unwanted guests 🤣) The gardens front and back are OK, but, not to my standards or liking, so landscaping will be a fun job to start getting into, so when spring is sprung I'll do a heap of planting, lots of natives and vegetables is the plan, the old owners were more "Old English Garden" type, so basically Roses and other weird looking things that are destined for the green waste bin One thing that is staying garden wise is a nice established hedge out the front, it is about 5 foot tall and covers the whole front of the property from prying eyes As for the car hoist, the roof in the garage has some height to it, but, I'll need to get an installer out to see what can be done, width wise may be a issue, but my building inspector will be getting back to me over the next week with his recommendations  Small, but cosy
    • I tried to get in contact before I went to QLD you didn’t respond, then I tried to contact you in r31 club.  I thought you fell off the earth or something haha.  I will grab it off you but unknown when I will be up that way
    • I think that might be in the question. He is going very low, and I think the standard GTR ones are simple tripod joints (like the rear NA/S chassis ones), not proper CVs (like R chassis turbo/GTR ones). Proper CVs take the misalignment better than tripods.
