do u think if the V35 isnt going so well by the time they release the next model they could go back to the original skyline shape?

take for instance holden is going old style shape instead of redesigning a new shape

yeah the nismo versions r sweet! but they've lost the coolness like i can see heaps of 40 - 50 yr olds buyn them

... which is the point of the design - 40 - 50 year olds are the ones with the $$'s to buy them new.

Since the new Skyline was designed as a world car (unlike the R32/33/34 which were aimed at the JDM market only), it is targeted at the equivalent competition around the world - 3 series, C class, IS200/300 etc, as those are the cars that the target market are likely to be shopping for, so that is the direction of the design.

Personally I like the design (but then again I like the 350Z....), the only bit I don't like is that they didn't create a new inline 6 to go with it - that would have enabled it to better fight the 3 series and preserve some of the Skyline heritage at the same time. But the fiscal reality is that at that time Nissan probably couldn't afford to develop a new engine, so the VQ is the obvious alternative I guess.

I like the coupe.

2005 version pushing out 295 HP stock and the previous versions doing 280 HP stock with low 14 second 1/4's stock I mean whats not to like.

Plus with some decent rims they uber nice.

All nice examples, sure they don't have the blocky shape of the older JDM Skylines, but things are moving on.

You can bet that the new GTR will look closer to these and the 350Z than it will to the R34, when it finally comes out.

But each to their own I guess, peoples tastes are different.

you can hardly compare it to the 32,33,34 etc why dont you compare the car against the likes of the 1960 & 1970's skylines which again look nothing like any of these. We have grown up with that style of body etc i am sure the people our age 20 - 30 years ago would be saying exactly what we are now about the "new" skyline. Also isnt it called the V35 so its not even trying to keep the same name as the other ones eg r31, r32, r33 and r34 :)

yeah it's all relative to your personal experience and your willingness to accept change.

I am 31, so older than most of you guys here, and I definitely grew up with the R32/33/34 car shape.

Times change, car design changes for reasons other than looks. I must admit when they first came out I wasn't too impressed but as time went by, the more I learnt about them the more I began to like them, probably as I age more towards the market they are designed for. I am looking at importing one near the end of this year which will undergo a few modifications when it arrives here :)

It requires changing your thinking and some people can and others can't, thats why you will see old codgers thinking that unless it's a V8 it can't be powerful, or the old Holden vs Ford B.S and no other car is worthy. They don't have it within themselves to accept change.

except they are making double the horse power that the N/A R32/R33/R34 can do.

In fact they make more horsepower stock than a lightly modded GTST/GTT does.

You'd hope so after all these years. And they don't make more power than a GTT. Get your facts straight.

It's not as though the VQ is huge leap forward. I'd like to see how much power a RB35DE made.

    • Before I commit to it as I already have the wastegate off the car, would you change it to the 9psi spring instead of the 12, or whack it back on now and try your suggestion?   Edit: Actually I might just swap the spring and see what the logs say after another few pulls, as we know it's still spiking without the Mac valve in the picture so I need more data without the Mac valve trying to combat the issue.
    • Sounds good Hmm suppose the main thing is, how much do you care about this car? The filler doesn't make for a very good water barrier lol. If there was a tiny little bit of rust forming now, that in 3 to 5 years time becomes obvious under the paint (starts to bubble up), would it bother you?
    • I already have the ability to datalog the voltage... what I can't do is correlate it to what the gauge is showing when I'm looking at the data at a later date. Or something like this. Except getting the oil to 125C+ involves me going 200+kmh at the track so you can imagine this is a little tricky unless I do something like note what the voltage is when I am at the top of 5th gear so I have a point to reference on. Drove car today. O2 still reading richer because hopefully not a leak instead of massive restriction I've introduced. Car really doesn't sound like a LS. It's quite strange. Pulled a bit of fuel out up top. This does potentially explain why my spark plugs looked like the car was running pretty over-rich. If I was tuning it to a ~12.7 which in reality was far richer than that in the past. It will be handy to have the dyno WB to compare my WB to to compare notes that's for sure. At this point I'm happy to just sit in the passenger seat and tune the thing given I've got about 7 million hours on the platform lol.
    • Yeah I understand you have to pay for an updated map or subscription service or something. But I can't even find a current map for Australia. My map is dated 2017, but didn't this car version still sell in Australia until 2021?   Also, just as an aside, the navigation system warns you of traffic incidences ahead.....why would they include that on a map they knew is not receiving live information. I am forever going to be warned of an incident that probably existed for 30 minutes 8 years ago.
