I HAVE A ENGINE BEING REBUILT NEXT WEEK FOR MY R33 GTS-T (LATE 1995). I HAVE ASKED FOR THE STRONGEST POSSIBLE ENGINE WITH AFTERMARKET PARTS FOR ABOUT $5600--$6000. CAN ANYONE GIVE ME SOME IDEAS ON WHAT TURBO (NEW) WOULD BE BEST SUITED, IF MY STOCK ONE NEEDS REPLACING (IM CONSIDERING GARRET TO3/TO4)YELLOW, AND ANY OTHER MODS THAT SHOULD BE FITTED TO KEEP THE NEW ENGINE HEALTHY. EXISTING MODS ON THE CAR INCLUDE - APEXI (GT SPEC) INTERCOOLER, K&N POD FILTER, Z32 AFM, JASMA 3.5INCH EXHAUST - WITH 4 INCH TIP, BLITZ DUAL SBC EBC, (NEW) WALPRO 500HP/255L.P.H FUEL PUMP, NEW HKS SSQ B.O.V., ORIG- NISMO FRONT STRUT BAR, NEW CLUTCH, FULL GTR BODYKIT,18In LENZO ALLOYS, NEW BRIDGESTONE POTENZA SO3'S 235X40(FRONT) & 265X35(REAR). IF ANYONE CAN GIVE ME ANY OF THEIR IDEAS ON THE ABOVE AND ON HOW MUCH HORSEPOWER/KW I MIGHT BE ABLE TO PRODUCE WITH THIS NEW ENGINE, IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIAITED. PHOTOS TO BE POSTED SOON!

mate i had my engine rebuilt too and i went the hiflow t3/t4 currently with the microtech computer and 14psi i am pushing out a bit over 300hp at the wheels. I recomend getting a custom turbo manifold, i only have the standard one but am going to upgrade soon. u will however need bigger injectors and perhaps fuel regulator to cope with the increase in power if u are going to run a bit of boost. My turbo starts to spool at arounf 2700rpm and is a full bost by 3600rpm

hope this helps

im not the one to know the best internal stuff but you'll need an oil catch can and definatley at least 550cc injectors, fuel pres reg, id also recommend a custom manifold so it flows better than the stocky ones, im in the process of doin the internals so if anyone has good idea's that would help 2 of us...

cheers...ben.

Thanks mate, I think will go with 550 injectors and a fuel regulator and the manifold. I will have to shop around to find a good deal.

Thanks Ben, I am going to source the injectors, oil catch can, fuel reg and the manifold. Do you know what sort of price I'm looking at?

Thanks Davio, Can you give me a idea where to source a microtech computer and prices involved? I have located a Apexi power FC, but maybe something cheaper?

get the PowerFC.

And take it to RacePace to get it tuned. I would also suggest taking it there for the motor rebuild too if you aint already laid out cash

As for turbo, what power you want?

I'm running a GT30 (600hp) and making ~270rwkw on 16psi at the moment.

RB25 rebuilt with forgies, and GTR rods.

Thanks, I had a look for contact details for RacePAce in the yellow pages online, but couldn't find it. Can you help with the number/site? The engine dosn't start to be pulled out until next Friday and I am at the moment getting Cavehill Engine Services PTY LTD in Lilydale to do the build the engine as they have done a number of these engines and I was referred to them by a Turbo/dyno specialist. I will contact RacePace A.S.A.P

    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.
    • Maybe they'll look to do a bunch of presales to help inject some cash fast for their financial issues...
    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
