hi guys

i just bought myself a ceffy off the boat rb20det AUTO (been here 3 weeks) and it still hasnt got compliance yet

i was trying to hook up the batery on it when i onnected the wrong terminals to the battery

this simply means that i connected positive to negative and negative to positive and then a big spark tried to burn my eyebrows off.

i searched around and replaced all the fuses in the car because the car then wouldnt start and none of the electricals would work. I replaced a blown fuse in the engine bay and now all of the electricals work perfectly

the only problem is that the car wont start now and im afraid that i have blown the computer up. does anyone or has anyone had this problem? the car tries to start and just comes before that point of starting and it doesnt turn over.

i know my mistake and i will probably lick myself really hard when i find out the real consequences of what i have done. the question i got is:

1. What computer do they use? is it exactly the same as the r32gtst because they are the same engine?

2. Could it be anything else?

3. How much is a computer and where can i get one from?

thanks for all yur help people - i need this thing on the road so i can start drifting the thing,

thanks guys

steven

skyline r32 ecu is different because of different electrical accessories try to get onle from just jap kirawee the will have one. Have you cheked the fuel pump fuse ??? give that a try before any thing or pull the fuelm line off and turn the car on reds if there is no fuel comming out thats your problem. Alsochek the plugs to see if they are firing.

Check your relays too I'm sure the fuses should protect these but yeah.. Also make sure there is no alarm/immobilser in there if that's blown up and not working there's a chance it may be still immobilising it.

You may like to open your ECU up maybe theres a fuse in there too ? (just guessing).

i wouldnt recommend anyone opening up their ECU that has just put the battery terminals on back to front.. lol no offence.

u can use any R32 GTST ECU from memory but it will need to be retuned (make sure its an AUTO too obviously).

can u hear the fuel pump?

justjap - www.justjap.com

also try sss automotive girraween (i think).

Before you go buying ECUs for rare-ish cars you should probably pay your local sparky $50 to come down after work if that's a feasible thing ...just to tell you what's wrong.

Question for you - I *think* when you put your car on reds the light on the ECU should come up... can you get your car on reds? Does the light come up?

I did this on my brothers BMW E30 M3... He wasnt impressed.

The fuel pump wouldnt work (Called BavariaCars and they told me how to short the Fuel pump to make it run. But I still was getting a spark when I put a screwdriver into the lead and looked for a spark on the block. Got it towed to sydney (from Newcastle) and it ended up costing about $1500 for bits and labor. I'll track down the invoice later and see what they did, the Haltech ECU is still there so I guess that was unscathed, but some of the ignition controller modules were fried methinks.

i know my mistake and i will probably lick myself really hard when i find out the real consequences of what i have done. the question i got is:

:(:) :) :D :D

hahahahahahahhahaha

dude, you gonna lick your self real hard aye???? let us know how you go bro...

    • Block bump. $400. As above cyl 6 needs bore or sleeve.
    • I would think making the argument that the travel is limited by a spring flexing against a spring perch as "the same method". Later on in the document they do state that the spring can't bind on full bump travel and cannot come loose in full rebound travel as well. (which is all very sensible). The laws are actually pretty sensible and reasonable. It's just that the people who enforce and check them don't actually read them or know them accurately. "Oh, coilovers? Instant fail mate. Don't even need to look at it." - Guy who will be instantly reported by me. There is probably merit to people who do get defected for height also get defected for the suspension in that state that allows it. I did never consider the people who are complaining about coilovers being picked on are also running around at 50mm off the floor.
    • I think given SAU's knowledge of E85 we can strongly conclude that 10% ethanol in almost any situation is entirely fine. Almost all of the myths against E85 were overblown, let alone E10.
    • From your link See bold text, is this referring to damper settings, if so that may a issue for "some" inspectors, I cannot see aftermarket coilovers having the evidence that "must be available that its functional performance is equivalent to the original" Maybe just remove the adjustment knows and hope for the best???? Meh 5.2 Suspension travel In all instances, modifications to a vehicle’s suspension must ensure the integrity of the system and not compromise the ride quality. At least two thirds of the original suspension travel should be maintained in both directions (rebound (i.e. extension) and bump (i.e. compression)), and rebound must be limited by the same method used by the vehicle manufacturer or if this is not practicable due to the nature of the modification, an equivalent method. If an alternative method is used, evidence must be available that its functional performance is equivalent to the original.
    • They actually don't - They adhere to VSB14 rules just like Victoria. The rules are against CABIN adjustable height, and it quite clearly states that the height has to be within parameters. I asked the VASS engineer to confirm this when I got my car engineered and they refused to engineer the coilovers because they didn't meet the requirements for requiring engineering. (mine are height adjustable.) People "Not wanting to bother" with "Actually reading/knowing/adhering to the rules" should result in fines and immediately losing the ability to issue blue slips and/or RWC's in Vic.
