hey guys, sorry to bring back an old thread but when your putting the pump back into the tank, how far down does the two slots on the pump cradle go into the bracket. I can only get it a little bit down.

Is it suppose to go all the way down till you can see the split anymore?

it can be difficult to get the two pins to slide all the way down due to the width and length of the pump. if you located the pump and electrical connectors correctly it will fit...just (for a 984). have you got a pic of the pump on the cradle?

an 044 is longer again which might be quite a fiddle.

hey mate, sorry dont have a pic of the pump on the cradle but it is an 040 and i have located it as low as possible. I cant see anything that is actually stopping the pump from going down further into the slots.

ATM my fuel gauge is reading below a quarter and when i put the pump in as far as i can it is fully submerged in fuel.

ok, it will be related to where the clamps are located or the orientation of the electrical terminals.

try rotating the pump and/or clamps around. it took me a while to orient the pump the best way. the 984 is longer so the 040's length is not the issue.

i did an 040 install into a r33 on the weekend. if i had all the tools and parts on hand (instead of waiting for people to drive around and get them for me) i could've done it in about 30 mins. as it was it took me under 2 hours, and in that time i also installed a new fuel filter, and spent a fair bit of time talking and waiting for people to turn up with clamps, etc). it took me about 10 mins to get the pump out. then i just removed the old pump, snapped the L shapped bracket off (bend it a few times in each direction till it snaps), then mounted the pump to the bracket, put it back in and bobs your auntie.

i didn't cut the metal hose at all. i just butted the top of the pump up against it and put the stock hose over them both. this has the base of the bracket about inline with the writing on the pump (so it sticks down about an inch below the base of the bracket). this means that the top of the bracket doesn't go down the whole way in it's little clip (only about 90%), but so far we have had the fuel gauge down to about a needle width above the empty line with no signs of surging. the base of the pump sits about 5mm higher that the bottom of the pipe in the sock of the stock filter.

i used all the stock fittings, the only bits i used that weren't factory were 2 hose clamps to hold the pump to the bracket. i just drilled out the stock ring terminals cause i couldn't be bothered waiting for someone to go buy me some bigger ones.

i will photochop the pic at the top of the page to show how i had it sitting since i didn't take any pics.

Worst job putting a fuel pump in-tank. I got so light headed from the petrol fumes when I put mine in. Best tip with the 040 make sure you orientate the clamps so they clear the edges of the tank, other wise the bracket won't push all the way down all they way.

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
