Ok. I have a small restrctor piece that all you need to do is disconnect the 2 hoses to the factory boost solenoid and plug them onto either side of it. I have drilled it out to the right size to make 10psi.

Takes less than 5 minutes to install, no changes to hoses and you won't burn out your solenoid by earthing it to the chassis to get the constant 7psi!!

Please see latest posts. Verify that you do have the solenoid connected that I am referring to..

You get one piece, clamps and instructions delivered for $20.

If you want a second piece to hold another boost level add another $8 and I will try and amtch that boost level.

smart idea bro. i made one Similar but i made it out of a 1/4" ball value tap. it doesnt bleed but u can Adjust the boost as much as u want. it costed me abut $9-10 thats wat i call cheap boost LoLz u think of it $10 for extra 15-25kw depends how much u want to drill it to get the boost setting.

Thanks mate, got the idea from reading a few things in here, found this nice little fitting that suits and thought I'd see if anyone interested. Yes, alternatively you can get about a 6mm needle valve to do the same thing as this (like what you did) - though you have to adjust to get correct setting and boost could spike slightly more. Depends what people are after.

So the R32 has a similar arrangement (just looking at your pic in avator)?

Nissan Skyline R33 Boost Modification

Standard Boost?

Standard R33 Nissan Skylines run 4 Psi boost below 4500rpm, above this a solenoid is activated which allows boost to reach 7 to 8psi. This is why standard skylines feel quite FLAT low in the rev range!

What will this do and what is it?

An orifice piece that is predrilled to the correct size bypasses enough air to allow 10psi of boost. This orifice will be placed between the hoses that currently run to the standard sloenoid. 7psi should then be achieved by about 3000rpm in 1st and 2nd gear and 2500rpm in higher gears. 10psi will be reached slightly after this.

How to do it?

The fitting of the equipment involves simply unplugging the hoses off the solenoid and inserting the piece provided. This should only take 5 minutes to install. I will also provide instructions and pictures on the installation process.

What's provided?

2 orifices will be provided - one that hold 6-7psi and one that holds 10psi. The 7psi orifice can be drilled out to achieve other boost levels higher than 7psi if desired.

Is it better than a simple bleed valve?

In some ways it is. There is no adjustment so there is no chance of boost altering when you don't want it to. Easier to fit, plug and play. I have done the homework determining the correct orifice size - so it should be right to go.

Disclaimer: It is a good idea to verify the boost with a reasonably accurate gauge. With any modification please do this at your own risk and be careful :)

No they don't spike much. They are Better than a valve.

Also, when I tested the boost with the standard solenoid ( i.e. before I changed to this piece), boost would hit 0.6 bar then back to just under 0.55bar.

These are slightly better peak boost to 0.7 bar but trails back to just over 0.65bar. So you are not loosing boost control over the standard setup :) Probably about the same control in terms of spiking as stock, thowever with this piece there is more boost at low rpm = more low end torque.

Received mine yesterday and put it in this morning! works like a dream - mine hits 0.7bar then dropped to 0.68 bar, not much of a spike. With the solenoid i was spiking as much as 0.6bar I think, the same as when I ran the needle valve setup.

are there any disadvantages? advantages?

i don't know shit, i'm a total noob.. but if its going to make my car run at 10psi for $10... then I'm all for it :) so can a noob like me be able to fit this devices hehe? I'm interested... count me in :)

i'm liking this idea, as it would be harder to detect if one was pulled over, compared if i had a shiny bleed valve in the car

You really do need the solenoid placed in the system to start with as you should be expelling the bled off air somewhere.

The standard solenoid has an inlet from the T piece between intercooler pipe and actuator, the outlet of the solenoid is to a vacuum hose that goes back into the inlet (before the turbo.otherwise the pressure would not let the air escape).

You can do it with any turbo car but the correct way to do it would be to insert a T piece in the hose going to the actuator and place a restriction in the Teed off hose, but then channel it back into the intake (not really neccesary). So you can do it with any car yet more experimentation would be needed to get the right size orifice etc. It's just that this seems to be good consistent boost with stock or slightly modified R33s.

If you just place a restricion in the hose it could lead to delayed boost response and strange boost curves I would think.

I have had a fair bit of demand , I have actually run out of the pieces that I use. I will try and source some more and reply to PMs seeing that people seem keen.

I will have these pieces ready to go by late next week I think.

They will now be a brass fitting but will still not be able to be picked up by others as being nonstock.

To cover costs $15 Delivered. Still a cheap way to gain some power and low end torque. The fitting is also more robust.

Please note it is advisable that you fit a boost gauge to verify that peak boost is in the 8-11psi range peak. All the skylines I've fitted it to so far have been 9.5-10psi holding steady.

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed 
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
