My car without cat passes all current emissions tests, and so is perfectly legal in Britain.

So you are saying that cats are not required in pomgolia? Or is it that they cant test emissions for waste products that cats remove? The cat is there for a reason no matter what reason that is they impose a heavy fine for tampering/removing them, why is that so Dr Clark?

put a 3" cat on, then put a 3" straight pipe on the car.

do dyno runs as close as you can

you'll be surprised at the difference

Its going to depend on the brand/model of cat. SydneyKid has provided some good solid evidence that a cat -- namely the 4" magic -- doesn't have to mean sacrifices in power.

The Apexi 3" is meant to be very good too, but I haven't seen anyone with solid figures.

LW.

lol,Lets all convert to LPG. 100+RON

Vapour Injection systems with twin convertors to handle up to 400kw @ the flywheel. Youd be lucky to get change out of $4000

Huge reduction in emissons.

The Vapour Injection unlike the traditional gas carb or suck through O-ring returns the same fuel economy figures as petrol, just at half the price. :D

Put a 4" cat on and compare to a 3" straight through pipe and you won't see any difference. I have and it's true, other people have and found the same thing, Zoom did it and agreed and printed the results.

In my opinion the loss of power excuse is out of date.:D

You used to be able to rely on LPG for 100 RON, but since they started to make it to a price, not a standard, I personally can't depend on it any more. I have a friend with a Cobra replcia that runs on gas and he is having more and more problems with pinging. Very few people buy LPG for its RON, they buy it for it's price. :)

Hey SK,

How do the new range of stainless steel (inside) 3" cats that BATMBL has for sale compare to the Magic cats? Is it worth putting a 4" cat on the GTiR, like would the GTiR be pushing enough power to make it worthwhile?

Thats the ones he's got for sale - although I'm unsure whether the actual cat is 3" or 4".

*Thought I'd drag up an old thread instead of starting a new one.. I know how to use the search button *

My car was registered without a cat but I'm sick of the stink every morning and when sitting at the lights sometimes you can smell it... I've quit smoking so I live longer, and would hate to be poisoned by something so minor.

Anyone know if these Magic cats are available in WA or recommend any other brands to source?

Thanks :)

Kylie

rev ur car few times, im saying like 5-7k styles, if u got water spraying out of ur exhaust..then you got complete combustion. As ive been told that means, fuel is being combusted 100%. Then resort to straight cat, shouldnt be any problems with emissions if that is the case.

A 3" hi flow cat would be a good upgrade to finish off the exhaust, and create a lot less restriction, you will definitely feel the power. A straight pipe will have no restriction and you feel a lot more power compared to hi flow cat. :D

One of the catalytic converter's biggest shortcomings is that it only works at a fairly high temperature. When you start your car cold, the catalytic converter does almost nothing to reduce the pollution in your exhaust. This is an important note when taking your car for a complience test - make sure that it has had a good steady run to heat up the Cats to working temperature or you could fail your emissions test.

anyway..u can de-cat ur car if u want...but if everyone did this the world would be a much shitter place...do ur kids a favor and buy a decent hi-flo as suggested and produce less pollution.

Yes but most of the time the exhaust gas is too hot to cool down and condense to water on an aftermarket system, so that theory is :D Not that water would be a signal for anything anyway lol :)

    • I guess one thing that might be wrong is the manifold pressure.  It is a constant -5.9 and never moves even under 100% throttle and load.  I would expect it to atleast go to 0 correct?  It's doing this with the OEM MAP as well as the ECU vacuum sensor. When trying to tune the base map under load the crosshairs only climb vertically with RPM, but always in the -5.9 column.
    • AHHHH gotchaa, I'll do that once I am home again. I tried doing the harness with the multimeter but it seems the car needed a jump, there was no power when it was in the "ON" position. Not sure if I should use car battery jump starter or if its because the stuff that has been disconnect the car just does send power.
    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.
    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack.
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
