Whatever works, sometimes slipping the clutch doesn't help when you got next to no power like mine, the tyres should do some work even if its only 205 worth.

My tip: don't rev the shite outa your engine and you will launch ok with lower pressure in the rear tyres.

Vspec, see what rev your car juuuust bogs down on if you on the street with a sidestep. It probably won't bog down on the strip at this rev. Feed the accellerator as quickly as you can, without bogging it.

Rev210,

Thanks for the tips. Are you coming down on Wednesday, as I'm sure I could use some expert advice? It bogs down at around 3000rpm, but this is with the shitty 265's on the back. I'm bringing some brand new 255's if I can't get good traction.

I'm taking a trolley jack and hopefully a small compressor to change tyre pressure, to see if it has any affect. I'm only going to run BP Ultimate with octane booster, I'm planning on using some VP Motorsport Fuel at a later date once I get used to the launching.

Hey Hicks,

My mate said that skylines will tend to go considerably faster when the clutch is just starting to slip.

Ha ha, Bullshit, paul!!

Untill you get your 13.6 or lower, my car is faster.

Dude would like to have another go but, I'm down south with the family on holiday.

Just remember to have fun, and make sure you beat the guy next to you, its the best part for the adrenalin. Race some of the other skyline guys in a grudge match. Tell the stewards you want to do this and they will fit you both in.:P

Hicks,

No offence taken dude, I agree totally!!!!!:P

But in my defence I never put the tyres down, had crappy tyres that spun in 1st, 2nd and 3rd and had 2 x 12" subs, 2 amps and spare tyre in the boot!!!!;):D (I know most of you have the same and run faster times but that's not important:lol: )

Had some fun in the R last night, tried my first 6k launch, chopped a new WRX and some flashy little turbo car (hatch with full kit, 5 in 1 paint job etc...

I didn't realise how fast the R was until I actually ran someone, can't wait for more power !!!!!!;) ;)

Anyone else think I might hit the speed cut before the end of the 1/4 tomorrow night?? I have no idea of terminal speeds I'll get...

The best I could ever manage with the GTS was a 14.5...   That was with full exhaust,  pod, Power FC and 0.8bar.   Crap driver was the cause I think..   So I thought F*&K it and got a GTR,  now it's just 7000rpm and go!!!  ha ha ha ha   13 seconds here I come...

Brett

Would expect a 13 flat or high 12s if your running a bit more boost than standard.

ya prick!:bahaha:

Macka,

It's still running standard boost, so I'm guessing (and only guessing) that a mid 13 might be possible as is, hopefully with the power fc, cam gears and 1 bar 12's should be gotten (as long as I can learn to drive it properly)....

I'd say we would have a good run, a 12.8 is damn fast for a gtst!!! You must have some crazy mid range power!!!!

You going tomorrow night????

You should do better than 13.5 if your not a nasty driver!

stock everything? new exhaust = a bit more boost

12.98 a 12.8 would of been a bit more solid in the 12's but theres always next time.

I dont have much mid range that all disappeared when i backed the timing off, its all top end now which makes it a bit of a bugger around town altho boost comes on early so its not too bad.

I may come down on wed to watch but thats about it im afraid!!

Macka,

Yeah true with the full zorst I'll be running a bit more boost than standard, guess I'll just wait and see what time's I get...

Deesh,

I never underestimate the 180's, a few mates have them and god damn even stock they hammer.. But I'll give you a go..:P

Adam,

Yeah a 12 is bragging rights, but a 12 in a gtst is better than a 12 in a gtr right!!!! SOOO I guess I'll have to aim for 11's then!!! ha ha ha ha ha.

I thought GTR's do high 12's standard ? This is what i'm told by people i know who pull themselves over these (sorry for offending) king of the road GTR's ?

pisnnissn??,

Yeah, alot of mags claim that the factory GTR's can do high 12's, and it probably is possible, but add the normal driver to the equation and mid to low 13's are more likely. Make some minor mods and 12's no problem.

    • Well, yes, every CU on the bus is available via the Consult port, but whether the scanner you are using is capable of talking to the TCU, the ABS/TCS modules, etc etc, is what is at question here. Many of them are only for engine codes. So, if you have one of those, you won't know if the ABS is having a bitch.
    • That's now. R chassis Skylines come from a time when the tolerance in the ADRs was a bit more....slack. My car, on 235/35-17, which is damn near the exact same size as the original 205/55-16, is pretty much bang on correct indicated speed across the whole legal range. That's demonstrated with constant speed run over 5km, and GPS speed. It's just the luck of the draw. My particular speedo head has to be the thing that is "calibrated" that way, because everything else (the diff ratio, the gearbox and the speedo drive**) are all same same as most other Skylines. **OK, so the speedo drive is a Navara unit to drive the R32's cable, not the electronic unit than an R33/4 would normally have with teh same gear on it. Otherwise, I applaud your OCD tendencies, and I would do the same if I needed to.
    • Not too sure, I believe the Nissan consult port does everything? Also just filled up the reservoir to full and the light is still on. The float seems to move up and down fine.
    • The speedo's can be very conservative, when my Mazda NC MX5 speedo is showing 118kph, the GPS, and a calibrated radar.... cop mate.....hits me at around 110kph +/- 1 or 2 kph, and that is on a 215/45 17, stock tyres size is 205/45 17 as well, so weirdly conservative with stock tyre size When my Commodore speedo red 116kph GPS had me at 110kph on 255/40 17, so again conservative Google says manufacturers need to set the speedo from 4 to 10% slower than actual road speed.....for safety.....and compliance  After doing some offset and clearance measurements to see what can fit the NC on 17x8 +40, without guard rolling or rubbing anything at my current ride height, I've decided that when my tyres are toast, I'm going to fit 225/45 17 and see where that gets me IRT actual speed of my speedo and GPS/radar From the online calculator I should be still be doing around 5kph under an actual 110kph when the speedo is showing 110kph My ADHD requires that when I'm doing 110kph on the speedo, that the actual road speed is actually really close to that, and not alot slower And going from 205 to 225 still keeps the car within the %/mm allowable in the NSW vehicle rules and regulations, which is nice, as long as I'm looking at the latest version that is.....LOL https://www.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/files/2021-02/RMS-13.464-Light-vehicle-modifications-Vehicle-Standards-Information-No-6-November-2013.pdf
    • Take the value it measured as, and pick the closest range available that is above the reading on the screen.   Also, no point just testing the coils. Read what has been said again. You need to test all your wiring, everything.
