P.S Everyone said my turbo would fall apart in no time at all, and that was over 12 months ago and its still going strong :D

i would believe, when looked after our engines last ages, no idea why so many go bang.

MASTR had 190,000 on the clock when it was pinched still with stock internals and turbo.

I think you'll find changing to an ebc wont get much more HP, the turbo is pretty much at its max now it will probably make more heat than HP at 12psi. I think i managed about 250hp on 12psi (with an ebc and i was still dropping boost late in the rev range) and a stock ecu. If you find my latest dyno charts in the forced induction thread you'll notice how flat my boost curve is all the way to the redline with the ebc and external wastegate.

I DEFINATELY made more power with 12 psi compared to 10 psi (186rwkw vs 203rwkw)

Regardless, that turbo is a freak, it should be pushed to its limits in the name of research! wouldnt surprise me one little bit if there had been a bit of highflowing going on by a previous owner. (edit: still doesnt explain the injector crazyness happening though)

Beside that, and EBC should bring boost on quicker than just a bleed, it will generally hold boost better too, depending on which type it is eg, with the AVCR you can set the duty cycle at different rpm.

Either way - DO IT, you know you want to. :) as do we :D

Damn you WA tuners/dynos/cars ! 215-225rwkw from a std RB25DET/Turbo ouch!

not sure benm.... my car has always got go hp concidering the mods it has (or lack of mods) but i am so happy with the way the car drives now since having my Power Fc fitted and tuned... much nicer than when i had a safc .....

Rob ... i agree with you, i wont be spending money on an EBC, i dont think it will make much more hp.... its holding a pretty steady 10psi now

steve.. good point about the boost coming on earlier .... in regards to the research if you want to donate a ebc i will gladly pay for the tuning ..... hehehehehe ....

the previous owner was in japan.... when i imported her she had standard wheel, standard cat, standard front dunp pipe, standard intercooler so im guessing the turbo hasnt been touched but if it has ... lucky me

Sorry I dont have a spare EBC lying around  Another thing you can do is replace the wastegate actuator with an R32 one - good for a couple of extra pounds early in the piece. If you can find one that is.

You never know what you get from Japan, its not uncommon for cars to be stocked out before selling.

My S13 came with all the stock bits, including 9 heat range iridium plugs and some nice under car drift scars. Also little tell tale signs like new bolts in the rear camber arms. Nothing else unfortuneately, just a couple of littel give away signs of a 'history'.

Anyway, I do hope one day you try a little experimentation.

The power curve is like many of the higher output RB25's. At above 4500-5000rpm there is a noticable difference between those that can and those that can't produce this power engine wise. I dare say that the condition of the ignition coils / wiring has the largest part to do with many Rb25dets being unable to produce higher outputs, given that the tuning of the engine management follows a similar map. I think investigation down this path might actually clear this up for those who aren't able to get the power up top.

hmmmm maybe i should get new number plates huh what do ya think maybe "freek" hehhehehehe

mrgtst.....what does your car drive like with a power curve like that... looks like it would be a handful

Ps congrads on your hp too

Pie .... yeah this is by far the best month ive ever had !!!! first the house then getting married now this hehehhehehe

Hmm how does my car drive like.... well I dont really have much to compare it too so I would say it just feels pretty normal to me..... But I guess its really around the higher RPM in third when mine really starts to push you back in the seat so to speak.... I think its something you learn to control, You learn what gear and what RPM you know works best if you want good power and response on the street.... and as you can see from my power curve I am not getting much through the middle of the range so I rely on the top end a little more... with all the tuning so far we still cant smoothen out that middle part of the curve :(

C yar, the 32 wastegate actuator has a stiffer spring, and will give a higher minimum boost pressure. An R32 with an exhaust makes 10psi (roughly) minimum boost pressure, vs 7-9 for R33.

This means your boost will come on harder, and will hold boost better at higher pressures - due to the stiffer wastegate spring.

It is a common upgrade when using a turbo and running higher than stock boost to do the wastegate at the same time, especially if you are having trouble holding boost. For example HKS make upgraded wastegate actuators, but they would cost alot more than a second hand R32 actuator, which would be fine for your applications.

Its no different to changing the spring in an external gate (which I had to do) if you cannot hold the boost you want. Optimum is considered by some to be the stiffest actuator you can get that will allow you to run your minimum boost

    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
