I have air pissing out of the clutch pedal. Yes you read correctly. There is a loud hiss from in the engine bay and my idle has gone to shit and on trailing throttle it surges like a hoe.

The air noise is coming from the back of the block down near the top of the bellhousing. What is in that area that would have vacuum and would stop hissing when the clutch is depressed - as in pushed in not sad and unhappy.

if its a GTR then I would say the clutch booster has shat the diaphragm.

The GTR's have a small booster which the clutch m/cyl attaches to and has a vacuum hose running to it.

Take the hose off and plug it to see if the sound stops.

The clutch pedal will get real heavy but that is because it will have no vacuum assistance. It works the same as the brake booster assistance.

Cheers

Ken

Ok blocked the vacuum to the intake and the stall has gone away. Clutch is only marginally heavier so it mat have been dying for a while. What's the boost cost to fix or should I just do curls on my right leg to compensate for my overly massive left one now...

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
