john is good me built and tuned my 650 hp sr

on the power fc thing, they are still a pain to tune with the hand controller, so if he doesnt want to do it who cares, he sticks to what he thinks is the best. Needless to say power fc has many advantages and has its place but for all out motec/autronic standalone is supreme

But in all honesty the tuning isn't tedious.

Not quite as nice as the autolearn afr feature of the autotronic but none the less still very easy to adjust settings.

Some one who knows their way around the pfc can easily get a complete tune done in 2hrs.

As I said.. Johns simply been spoilt by being able to put his foot down and have the ecu adjust settings on its own. :)

The price of an ecu to match the powerfc specs is rather expensive.

i.e

6 injector sequential drivers

6 coil drivers

o2 closed loop

knock sensor utilization

Light/moderate load ign and fuel maps already setup.

The only real down side is

No data logging (unless you have the pfc software that is now available)

Heavy and WOT ign/fuel maps need adusting

If John were to purchase the PowerFC software, Datalogit from memory I'm sure he would pick up a lot of pfc customers.

At least now if you get a tune you know John is doing it, not one of the younger inexperienced boys.

Please dont come on here and recommend him for doing top service, as you have said your dad knows him. Its not like the rest of us would get the same sevice from him, or any of his staff....

Mates rates, and knowing someone dont mean jack sheit to the rest of us....

    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
    • Is it alright to top up with just another green coolant?

    • Will have a look at that. I cant see any leaks
    • Put another overflow bottle (ie, a 1.25 coke bottle or similar) under the overflow hose and see if it is being pushed out there or if it is disappearing into the engine.
