I agree.

The Rules in basic Principle i agree.

P platers shouldnt be driving round in silvias and lines.

If this is implemented well (lol - i doubt it) i bet we will see it in other states soon too, like QLD WA SA

But yes, More Driver Training should be required.

maybe to move up to a further vehicle class you have to pass advanced test etc etc.

Get sick of seeing too many 17 year olds with their r33 gtst and chromies doing stupid things ont the road.

I learnt in low powered fwd cars. I see nothing wrong with that.

Michael

I am still scratching my head - how can these things fix up a behavioural problem? Even driver training isn't going to fix it either, merely reducing the amount some of them might hurt themselves. Kids will always be kids..

this is so true, kids will be kids.

but a kid going silly in a RWD turbo car and a n/a fwd are 2 different things...

I know I wasnt less idiots driving rwd turbo cars.

I think i read in another thread something about power to weight ratios being restricted already in some states ...

What are your veiws on this??? Does this seem to you as tho it would be a better option rather than just a blanket ban???

If im not mistaken i think VIC already has this law <--- feel free to correct me on that

Also just out of curiousity how long is Provisional Term of your license in VIC???

Is it just me or do you the older generation of people in this country really need to find themselves a hobby ... and perhaps the young ppl who feel they need to link up multiple corners with some slideways action need to get themselves down to track meets and off the street <---- hey if kids didnt wrap theselves around poles then we wouldnt have this problem!!!

:werd:

U guy stop bitching none of u will b touched they won't make 20000 p plater with skyline and turbo sell them its just to hard they will make it everone that get there P's after a date

To bad for me i am a L plater that has a Skyline and if i don't get my P's soon i will have to sell it ****wits

I going for them on the 21st of June so i have a chance and i think the cut off is the 11th of july

I'm 17 btw just been to busy buying this car to go for P's

yeah i think the vic rules are better.

kw/perton or hp/tone or whatever.

instead of a blanket rule.

The law only comes into place on June 11th so your sweet mate but if you get caught speedng or anything in your car they wont let you drive it until you get your full licence.

Thank god Ive got my blacks.

strange.

like the import law changes,

you think if you can provide evidence you have financially commited to a vehicle before this date that they would allow you to drive it.

hard luck anyway.

hope you can get the car and your license before that date.

michael

Guest Mashrock
how are they going to police this

"P1 and P2 licence holders will be banned from driving turbo-charged, super-charged vehicles (diesel vehicles excepted), eight-cylinder vehicles and those with engine performance modifications."

how is Mr. Policeman going to know if my excel has extractors or not just by me driving past?

lol

because even if you do put extractors on an excel, its still not going to be as quick as the go go mobile!

I heard Mr Costa regurgitating the stats last night on the radio... apparently P-platers make up 7% of driving population, but are involved in 17% of fatal accidents...

NOW, what i want to know, firstly of that 7% how many actually drive performance cars... i would say it would be <1% or ~10% of p-plater drive performance cars probably less... Secondly of the 17% incolved, how many were driving performance cars in the accident (this i can't say but it would not be about 10-20%).

So why do the remaning 90% of p-plater who probably cause 80% of the fatal accidents get off without any sort of "penalty"... It's clear the only solution is to ban p-platers full stop (tongue in cheek)...

Congratulations to the Carr government and it's continued short-termism on issues in NSW. Carr has to go... for these reasons:

1) He waits til Sydney is in crisis before addressing the water issue;

2) He waits til the trains are in crisis before he addresses them;

3) same as above two but it's Hospitals in crisis;

4) These bollocks p-plate rules;

5) NSW is the most highly taxed state in Australia.

I only have one more point to make, which has already been made... but if a p-plater is going to drive like an idiot, they will do it in whatever car they have. I know, i was there did that somehow survived my p's, bought a skyline and respect it more than i respect my own parents...

End rant.

Hey its going to piss a lot of you guys off but as a victorian who had to deal with the same thing here in Vic for the 3 years i drove on my p's between ages 18-21, i totally agree with the NSWs governments decision.

The fact is that it is an effective way to reduce road deaths of young people, who are way over-represented in the death toll. I know if i had a RWD turbo car on my P's, i would probably have killed myself, even though out of my group of friends I am one of the most responsible drivers, with no fines or accidents so far.

It is simply a matter of inexperienced drivers and fast cars - they dont mix!

Just be glad you guys can drive when ur 17!

what are you talking about? in vic you arent allowed to drive any car that has more than 100kw per tonne. the r32 gts-t fits under this rule but the r33/r34 don't. not sure if the silvia/180sx would. just realised your in qld, oh well welcome to vics rule ;) its not too bad i mean its probably kept a few kids from hitting power poles at 130kmh in their vl turbo's . the rule applies to all cars, regardless of displacement, induction, cyclinders etc. however its not harshly enforced daily you see p platers driving high powered cars (well those over 100kw/ per tonne) and cops drive past them and dont blink an eyelid. i think it just depends on the copper and time of day really wether they will pull you over i guess. i mean its a raod rule right, vicroads knows what licence you have and what car you have. why not do an sql query every week

im a p plater, and i drive an R33 gts-t... coppers dont harrass me about the car, only the stuff under the bonnet that shouldnt be there... pod filter, bov., but apart from that, they've never said to me " you shouldnt be driving this car "... the way i see this issue is, n/a 6's and 4's go equally as fast as turbo ones.... living in vic. and already having my P's none of that new law crap affects me, but i still dont agree with it... also, dont take offence as this isnt meant to offend.... but being off your p plates and driving a high powered sports car doesnt make you any less liable to crash it... thats jst my 2 cents anyways :)

hey, Yesterday i emailed RTA about this matter .. this is what they emailed back:

. Will the prohibited vehicle conditions affect those who already

hold a provisional licence?

No. Existing provisional drivers, that is, drivers who entered the

3-year provisional licence scheme prior to 11 July 2005, will not

have the prohibited vehicle condition applied.

    • Did this end up working? Did you take some pictures?
    • And finally, the front lower mount. It was doubly weird. Firstly, the lower mount is held in with a bracket that has 3 bolts (it also acts as the steering lock stop), and then a nut on the shock lower mount itself. So, remove the 3x 14mm head bolts , then the 17mm nut that holds the shock in. From there, you can't actually remove the shock from the lower mount bolt (took me a while to work that out....) Sadly I don't have a pic of the other side, but the swaybar mounts to the same bolt that holds the shock in. You need to push that swaybar mount/bolt back so the shock can be pulled out past the lower control arm.  In this pic you can see the bolt partly pushed back, but it had to go further than that to release the shock. Once the shock is out, putting the new one in is "reverse of disassembly". Put the top of the shock through at least one hole and put a nut on loosely to hold it in place. Put the lower end in place and push the swaybar mount / shock bolt back in place, then loosely attach the other 2 top nuts. Bolt the bracket back in place with the 14mm head bolts and finally put the nut onto the lower bolt. Done....you have new suspension on your v37!
    • And now to the front.  No pics of the 3 nuts holding the front struts on, they are easy to spot. Undo 2 and leave the closest one on loosely. Underneath we have to deal with the wiring again, but this time its worse because the plug is behind the guard liner. You'll have to decide how much of the guard liner to remove, I undid the lower liner's top, inside and lower clips, but didn't pull it full off the guard. Same issue undoing the plug as at the rear, you need to firmly push the release clip from below while equally firmly gripping the plug body and pulling it out of  the socket. I used my fancy electrical disconnect pliers to get in there There is also one clip for the wiring, unlike at the rear I could not get behind it so just had to lever it up and out.....not in great condition to re-use in future.
    • Onto the rear lower shock mount. It's worth starting with a decent degrease to remove 10+ years of road grime, and perhaps also spray a penetrating oil on the shock lower nut. Don't forget to include the shock wiring and plug in the clean.... Deal with the wiring first; you need to release 2 clips where the wiring goes into the bracket (use long nose pliers behind the bracket to compress the clip so you can reuse it), and the rubber mount slides out, then release the plug.  I found it very hard to unplug, from underneath you can compress the tab with a screwdriver or similar, and gently but firmly pull the plug out of the socket (regular pliers may help but don't put too much pressure on the plastic. The lower mount is straightforward, 17mm nut and you can pull the shock out. As I wasn't putting a standard shock back in, I gave the car side wiring socket a generous gob of dialectric grease to keep crap out in the future. Putting the new shock in is straightforward, feed it into at least 1 of the bolt holes at the top and reach around to put a nut on it to hold it up. Then put on the other 2 top nuts loosely and put the shock onto the lower mounting bolt (you may need to lift the hub a little if the new shock is shorter). Tighten the lower nut and 3 upper nuts and you are done. In my case the BC Racing shocks came assembled for the fronts, but the rears needed to re-use the factory strut tops. For that you need spring compressors to take the pressure off the top nut (they are compressed enough when the spring can move between the top and bottom spring seats. Then a 17mm ring spanner to undo the nut while using an 8mm open spanner to stop the shaft turning (or, if you are really lucky you might get it off with a rattle gun).
    • You will now be able to lift the parcel shelf trim enough to get to the shock cover bolts; if you need to full remove the parcel shelf trim for some reason you also remove the escutcheons around the rear seat release and you will have to unplug the high stop light wiring from the boot. Next up is removal of the bracket; 6 nuts and a bolt Good news, you've finally got to the strut top! Remove the dust cover and the 3 shock mount nuts (perhaps leave 1 on lightly for now....) Same on the other side, but easier now you've done it all before
