Joel,

I'd rather have something that's quick 0-100km/h..... 100-200km/h.....& 200km/h-0 :P No good being quick to 100 but nothing left after that.

I had an interesting dream the other night...... I was side by side with a 280+rwkw Commodore doing 80-90, we both accelerated & I didn't see tail lights x2.

With very grippy tyres (i.e. RE540's - D01J's) 250+rwkw can be used to full effect on the street (once heated) although very grippy tyres can be a tad costly for daily use.

Back to the topic......

A STOCK GTS25t using ELF Turbomax (+ advanced timing) & running slicks would NOT get into the low 13's. Of course it depends on your definition of stock? I take stock as meaning factory standard, no modified parts AT ALL apart from the slicks. You can advance the timing as your not replacing anything but that's about it. High 13’s but not low!

Matt - That Commodore, Have you heard Jaffa is having some work done to the VX?

280rwkw would be needed to sit level with the 33. :P

All depends on the Budget. :)

0-100 or should I say 0-160 is fairly decent with a 200rwkw R32.

That will do me. :D

So your telling me an exhaust will give you 1 full second in the 1/4 ??

If an exhaust system is restrictive enough a 1 second improvement is very possible. Ask any of the SA guys @ a recent Tilbrook dyno day. SPOOLIN's modified GTS25t made 219rwkw & then after replacement of the *very* restrictive cat & cat back section followed up with 282rwkw. A gain of 63rwkw is more than enough to reduce a 1/4 time by a full second.

Bottom line is...... until someone goes out & runs 13.3 or less (what I consider low 13's) in a factory standard GTS25t using only slicks, high octane fuel & advanced timing then I'm not convinced.

Maybe my last comment will gee someone up to prove me wrong :D If so good on 'em.

Then again that bloke with the LJ type torana was making around 120rwkw and that weighs in at 1300kg's, He ran some where in the 12's with a really hard launch.

Joel,

The LJ only ran that quick as it was geared (diff & box) for 0-400m only! It was/is flat out doing much over 185km/h. Your car would manage a 12.8 if you set the gearing up to suit 0-400m, in fact seeing as you like 0-160km/h & off the lights stuff why don't you? :D

Yeah I knew Jaffa was having H/C done a while back. Jaffa's LS1 suffered from the dreaded oil consumption :D So why not go for it in the rebuild. The 280+rwkw Commodore I dreamt about has H/C too (+ a 300kw eng to start with) I also dreamt about another successful 80km/h run vs. a 240+rwkw Commie Ute.

260rwkw 1500kg (car with driver)

300rwkw 1700kg (ditto)

I would've thought the above would be closely matched. I could be way off though?

I remember reading somewhere a kg removed is worth more than a hp gained.

I sure hope so to ken doll :D i to belive 13.3 or less is a low 13, subzero have there is hope..

ermmmmm H/C?

ahh Also Remember I do like those Rolling runs Matt. :)

LOL.. Do you tell your Wife about these dreams?

Or does she wake you up and tell you to stop throwing your legs and arms around from changing gears? :D

H/C = Heads & Cam package

 She hears all about the dreams I have (not that she's all that interested) Naa she doesn't cop any stray feet or hands, the roll cage & harnesses keep the limbs on my side of the bed :D

 They must've got their wires crossed dude. It should've been, "Fabio..... the most beautiful man in the world" :)

Who do you know in the RAAF that knows me?

Yer but look at the tyres. And ask what RPM he launched at.

I run those cheapo Simex tyres and they grip so damn wheel where I find it really hard to spin second up out of a corner and first gear doesn't spin on launches.

Bridgestone B530's, older style Donuts, Baraum & Goodyear F1's all would do the above & all with the same width 225 50' 16.

Ahh Rob (or Roo) I should've guessed! His RX7 is getting some serious HP these days! (big turbo & all) Xtra grunt so he can get himself in trouble with the law "again" :P

REV's 13.4 is an awesome time! I know REV had his new S-AFC II fitted, be interesting to know if he'd tweaked the mixtures @ all?

Goes to show just how tough it would be to crack a low 13 with nothing more than slicks, high octane juice & a bit of timing advance. The biggest restriction would be the factory exhaust system. I still think low 13's in a standard GTS25t (with blah blah...) is very unlikely, but maaaaaaaybe possible?

    • I don't understand how this hasn't boiled down to - Upgrade the turbo when you have everything required. ECU, injectors, fuel pump, turbo, etc. Do it all at once.  If you don't have everything required, just enjoy the car as it is and keep saving up your pennies.
    • Sounds like you've got an interesting adventure ahead here with local support if you have trouble! My guess is that, unboosted, you will be OK with a small upgrade like -9. What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
