Hi all,

Recently bought myself a nice 97 Series 1 Stagea, all round good condition, including a couple of modifications already performed.

Im looking at adding on a front mount intercooler, a turbo to cat converter dump pipe and a catalytic converter (with all exhaust parts to be 3inch). The car already has a cat-back 3inch exhaust system, which runs nice and quiet. :whatsthat

What size could fellow Stagea owners recommend I go for the front mount intercooler kit? I'm looking at buying a bolt on FMIC to suit an R33 GTS-t, size 590x280x80 or 600x300x76.... which one would be the best fit for a Stagea?

With the turbo to catalytic converter dump pipe, what is the best way to go.... a split dump pipe or a single front dump pipe (probably from BATMBL)? Looking to keep to a budget, but alos after as much HP increase as possible.

Any suggestions please would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the info;

Ive decided due to better flow rates I'll get the split dump pipe, probably the larger style cat converter, but just need to research what size intercooler will fit into the front bar of the Stagea - my stag has a bodykit, so want to make sure the intercooler will fit.

Thinking of getting a $700 HYBRID Power Gt spec Tube & Fin intercooler, 600mm x 300mm x 76mm, "End to End is 800mm".

Cheers, if anyone has suggestions on intercoolers your feedback would be greatly appreciated! (Im off right now to pick up my Stagea from the vehicle freight yard - how exciting!!)

Thinking of getting a $649 HYBRID Power Gt spec Tube & Fin intercooler, 600mm x 300mm x 76mm, "End to End is 800mm".

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me whether this type of front mount intercooler will fit up into the frontal area of a Series 1 Stagea?

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

(see above thread or search "Hybrid Skyline" in ebay)

A lot of you seem to be very informed and knowledgeable in regards to Stagea's, can I have some info in regards to this type of cooler, or other suggestions?

R34 standard coolers seem to be hard to come across, and so are side mount replacement coolers, ie Blitz, Trust, ARC.

Ive measured inside the front bar of the Stagea's bodykit, and it looks to my untrained eye that an end to end 800mm size would be pushing things a bit and would involve a fair bit of chopping and cutting.... Ive been thinking maybe a 400 x 300 x 80mm might be better off (end to end 520mm), with custom piping?

With custom piping, is it better to run the 3inch pipes back from (either under the cooler or behind) where the original holes are? Or cut a new hole on the drivers side of the engine bay (around the battery area, as a hybrid kit would most likely require)? Id prefer to use the holes already kindly supplied in the car from the factory! ;)

Ive read most of the other intercooler threads on the forums, and a lot of you ppls really know your stuff when it comes to Stageas so any help and info would be fantastic! Ive been lucky enough to receive great advice from RSFour and others so far; more infomation on this subject would be hugely appreciated!

Ive already bought (or am bidding on) a S-AFC II, a 2-stage elec boost controller (to replace the turbosmart blled valve), a 3inch dump pipe and a 3inch catalytic converter, so I want an intercooler fairly soon and will have it all installed and tuned at the same time.

Please email me [email protected] if you have some suggestions, or reply to this post.

Ive had my Stagea for a whole 4 days now and love it! The looks the car gets is almost out of this world, 95% of the general Adelaide population have no idea what it is (baring those who are addicted to playstaion's Gran Turismo 4)

FMIC installation return feed 250 x 600 x 76

Thanks for the advice and pics, return feed looks like its exactly what Im after.... now trying to find one!! I know of an ARC one for sale, but $1400 is past my budget.

Might end up modifying a smaller core (say 400 x 250 x 76) with a 180degree return feed under the cooler so that the pipework comes back to original openings.

Brendan

nengun, cost me $1200 delivered

:whatsthat Funny, I have read that in a previous thread, and have actually already done a search to check it out. Saw the pics and prices on the website and have considered it. Was also intrested in those Tein adjustable suspension jobbies, but thats for another day (the current standard suspension is all ok for the moment). Thanks very much for the helpful info tho.

Im trying to keep under 2grand for a 3inch turbo to cat dump pipe, a 3inch Catco cat converter (bought), a Hybrid 3stage boost controller (bought), a Apexi SAFC II AFM (bought), an intercooler, a Black Widow car alarm (bought), with all items fully installed. So far Ive spent $1150 on those bought items, so looks as if Im going to be right on the mark.

I'll be pushing it though I reckon!!!!

And Ive had the Stagea for a whole 5 days now! :innocent:

Thanks again, Brendan.

    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
    • Not yet quite as bad as what we've seen a Jim Berry clutch do in an R32 GTR though when it decided to cut a chassis rail in half... Still very very gnarly and a great reason to avoid.
