Oh, that reminds me.....did the engine run backwards during the spin Duncan?

what a very interesting question.....there were 2 spins both at the same place and for the same reason, both were full 360 and the engine kept running both times. But now you mention it the knock started straight after the 2nd spin. I wonder how many g i pulled, wish I had data logging. Its also possible (but unlikely since I didn't notice) that I gave it an overrev when I got going again.

but frankly given the newness of the engine and the skills of the builder I suspect an assembly problem.

Bearing clearances? yep although I was surprised to hear that standard bearings were OK on a 100k engine. All according to the engine shop I didn't check their measurements.

Ring clearances are a bit looser than nissan spec we have to run standard piston and bore and after a hone it was a little looser, I didn't keep the exact figures.

Will next time tho :D

Ah huh, lotsa G, and then you gave it plenty in first gear to get going. It didn't hit the rev limiter by any chance?

:D cheers :D

lol I would prefer to leave it to the experts and stick to driving :O sadly life has not given me that choice I know far more than I ever wanted to about the inside of these engines ;)

If in fact it is dead that would be 3 RB engines killed by me in 5 years..... now there is a poll lol

    • Hopefully you can just unbolt them, thank them for their service, then bin them and not replace them Apparently the sensors like to set them off with only minor impacts at low speed It looks like they do a delete kit for some of these, but, it is costly
    • I hope it's actually possible. This is a write off in insurance world.
    • Yup. 2-way with shallow ramp angles. Still works.
    • That was the first session so not a lot to take from the day. It was low 20s ambient and the coolant had got to 110 (and obviously had some pressure!) so that still needs to be addressed. I haven't downloaded the data yet but will. I had refilled the auto trans with Redline DT6 because it claimed the best viscosity I could find at 100o. It wasn't really long enough to get a good feel for that; while the trans got to 100o in the session it still wasn't shifting crisply as I hoped. I think I'll try a few more sessions before judging. No steering motor overheat but I'd hope not in only 1 session! But finally the suspension; it was night and day over the standard stuff and the car was a couple of seconds quicker on the same crappy tyres, which is a huge difference. I'll stick with that and get some sway bars and a mechanical diff sorted too and see how that all goes together
