Hi all

Just about to install 2 x 12"MTX subs powered by monoblock amp with mono input.

My question is: the subwoofer output from my Alpine headunit (CDA 7894) is stereo (L+R channels). If I combined both sub outputs (left & right, + with +; - with -), will this short my headunit as this is technically short-circuiting both channels

Your input is appreciated

Cheers,

DD

Not quite sure what your saying...do you mean your amp has only one RCA input, not a pair?If so, using just the left (white) side of the RCA output should work fine. If the headunit sub-out is a dedicated sub-out ie. not a non fading output, this should be ok.

It wouldn't be "short circuting" the channels, it would just be merging them..

It may be a good idea to bridge both using a Y connector, just incase for some reason the bass is mixed on the left channel a bit different (trance and similar type music can use this for effect). Then you'd only be getting "half" the bass, and it may not come through correctly in the sub. By merging the signal, you are guaranteed of all of the bass, all of the time... and all your bass.. will belong to you :P

Predator is giving you bad advice here... You dont want to be mixing bass channels, itll sound even worse than only having one channel! Now, im not sure you know too well what your amp and headunit relationship is here, but even monobloc amps, still have two rca inputs, a white and a red. Your wrong in talking bout the whole shorting thing, but there is no need to even consider such a thing. Also, a tip when wiring your subs to your amp, be sure to use ohms law, and calculate the correct impedence for your speaker setup, to match your amps abilities. Any questions, dont hesitate to PM me

    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
