Hey guys.

I am thinking of buying either an R32 Skyline or a turbo S13.

was wondering wat peoples oppinions are when it comes to insurance i am 17 and on my p's in SA.

who would be the best priced insurance companies to go with for imports and do you think its better to go third party fire and theft or spend the extra doh and go full comprehensive.

all help would be heeps appreciated.

cheers, Aaron.

i prefer 3rd party compared to 3rd party fire and theft... coz fire n theft has a lotta conditions and only pay out up to $4 grand or sumthin... minus the excess so its not much... and they wouldnt cover my system anyway on fire n theft

for full comp i was looking at $3000 - $4000...

this was all through just cars for a S2 R33

my dad just gotta quote for full comp on his 4 door r33 and it was $800

P's are a bitch... im in melbourne though

try a search

i've priced 3 seperate quotes for R33's series 1 and 2, with varying mods, and the most expensive quote was $2200. thats just cars, and i'm only 19. in melb!

$4k? what the hell for

apparently premium prices have dropped a lot lately.....i think you should try again and get closer to $2k

Im 17 as well and i bought a 1992 R32 gtst, 3" turbo back exhaust, FMIC, BOV, Apexi AVCR, Greddy E-manage and GTR kit and my insurance with just cars in $2,052 . that is when i turn 18 in a month. i dont know what ur saying 4K?

Yeah im down to $908 a year rating one 23 with Just cars. Started at 21 on rating 3 at $1700.

Being in SA im guessing your insurance will be about $2k, try doing an online quote on the just cars website, then when ur serious give them a call. I found it was a fair bit cheaper when i rang them compared to the online quote.

You do realise when you list your mods they must be 100% legal.

If it isn't.. Goodbye insurance policy.

However, insurance company's don't usually pick on this unless you were being totally stupid and crashed the car.

the best pricing I've got is from Famous Car Insurance.

My skyline's insured for $1200 a year and the ceffy is $800, and that's for full comprehensive.

Helps if you've got a good rating though.

Their policies are a bit odd though. For example, I got a quote from one repairer for accident repair on the cef, had an assessor come down and approve it. The repairer bludged around for a couple of months etc, so I got another quote from another repairer for a cheaper value, and they insisted that I wait for the more expensive repairer to do the work. Which was wierd.

Other than that no hassles at all, and as long as you tell em what mods you have upfront, they're generally OK with it.

    • bumping this post as im still having dramas, my fuel pick up is sitting on the bottom of the tank, my pump gets a constant 13 volts through a relay, my fuel pressure holds consistently without fluttering or dropping, yet as soon as im near half a tank of fuel my car starts fuel starving and leaning out, it cant be due to g force as it never pulls hard enough before it starts breaking up, any help would be much appreciated
    • Just a thought, was that car and auto at any point of its life? If so, maybe whoever bridged the inhibitor switch/circuit did a not so good job.
    • Wife wanted basket things in the wardrobe in our temporary house. Thought about ripping our the wardrobe and fitting the entire IKEA set, but it's a temporary house and we want to move in a few years. So IKEA advertises this as a 50cm unit, however the actually basket and rails measure 46cm wide. Only issue was depth, IKEA stuff is quite deep, where as the builder special junk is super shallow at less than 40cm. Send it, chopped the rails, then offset the mounting holes, job done, happy wife, less shit scattered all over the bedroom. Did the same to the other side too. Also drove the Skyline shit box today, dropped off oil at Supercheap Auto. I didn't realise they only now take max 2x bottles per visit. I visited 2x Supercheap Autos.
    • I've seen similar actually in my situation. You never know what tables are attempted to be used when the car thinks it's -99C or +200C. The fail state is not usually that extreme but you know what I mean - it was in my case though! This is where being able to read all the sensors is useful cause you see this stuff really quickly.
    • The above is very important. However as long as you keep timing relatively low, it's plausible to make your own knock ears and plausible to learn to tune with a modern ECU that can do wideband O2 correction like a boost controller. I mean if you only have one viable road to even drive the car on, learning to tinker to this level may be worth doing given you can't do much else with the car...?
