Im after a good free flowing muffler for my r33gtst. Its way too loud as it is and needs to be quieter quickly!! Is there any good types of mufflers that flow freely and also cut down the noise dramatically? I dont really want to go the route of puttin 2 mufflers on if i can help it. Just dont want cops pullin me over cause i dont think they would appreciate what it takes to get 280rwkw as much as we appreciate it!! lol

Basically if i get done by epa/cops.....There will be one less skyline on the roads for a HELL of a long time!!

What is everyone else runnin here that has reasonably quiet cars?

on my last car I had a resonator fitted to drecrease the noise...and to be honest it didn't make much difference...I believe you need to source a good quality jap muffler eg: HKS, fujitsubo etc...I think it has something to do with the amount of baffle it has...so I was told..those cheap and nasty chrome cannon mufflers are normally loud.

yeah its got a jap rear cannon and just put a good 3" muffler half way along, that lasted bout 3 days, got it dyno tuned, pumped 20psi into her and blew the shit outta the muffler!!! Waste of $180!!!! Thats why this time i think i'll hunt around first and check out what others are runnin. The thing that doesn't help me is:

*4" mandrel piping

* No cat, just casing to look like it

* No resonator

So basically i'm relying on 1 muffler to do all the work for me! Its also runnin a 45mm hks external gate with screamer so if i do want it loud i just gotta give it a pisslin!! Shit this is gettin annoying!! WHAT TO DO??!!??

lol no wonder it's loud.

Get the hugest mid muffler you can find .. whack that in and see how you go. Also put in a cat. It's not worth the performance vs hurting the environment/getting reemed.

I would be suprised if you noticed ANY difference other than a noise reduction.

    • I might be way off the mark here.. there must be a T junction under the manifold. That takes manifold pressure through a check valve prior to the T, one side splits out to this bleed off orifice, the other straight to the wastegate actuators.
    • Carrying out some engine due diligence before my first drive in a 260RS that has been in storage for 10+ years, and found two lines that are susposed to be plumbed into the boost control solenoid. One of the lines (the wastegate boost supply line) to actuate the gates, had a bolt in one end blocking it. The other line (main boost signal line) from the very rear of the intake manifold (RB26DETT) and runs up to the boost controller had this pill in the end of it as seen in photos. Other than the obvious (T28 Ceramic turbos might well be cooked)  Can anyone shed any light on if there is any validity at all with this mod, bleeding a constant fixed rate of manifold boost pressure off through this 3mm hole?  Is it deliberate?  Was this a 90s Jap mod done to RB26's? Or has someone just fitted this without any idea of what happens to ceramic T28s if they are not gate controlled?
    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
