I have finished the engineering on the Bilstein/Whiteline suspension kit for R33/34GTR's that are designed to be used on the circuit frequently. They are suitable to drive to and from the circuit and would perform quite well in tarmac rallies, targas etc. The kit is not really designed for every day use, the spring and bar rates plus the alignment settings are not really suitable for all road conditions.

The shock and spring units are genuine Bilstein with both height and rate adjustment. Many shocks only adjust the rebound damping, these adjust both bump and rebound with a single knob. The front shocks have the adjuster on the top so it is easily accesible from the engine bay. The rear shocks have the adjuster at the bottom as the parcel shelf and rear bulkhead in R33/34's prevent access to top adjusters.

The adjustable stabiliser bars, caster, camber and rear subframe bushes are from Whiteline.

The alignment settings have been arrived at from extensive testing sessions at Eastern Creek, Oran Park and Wakefield Park. The GTR was fitted with Yokohama A032R's in 245/45/17 and A048R's in 265/35/18, the settings did not vary much between the 2 sizes. Compared to the same GTR fitted with standard suspension and the same tyres, the lap times were 6 seconds per lap faster at Eastern Creek, 4.5 seconds faster at Opan Park and 4 seconds faster at Wakefield Park. I can confidently the settings are a good starting point for anyone running R compound tyres on any circuit in Australia. Of course faster lap times will result from further fine tuning for the track and weather conditons on the day.

PS; if you drive your GTR everyday and only do the ocasional track day, this is not the kit for you. You need http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...showtopic=87826

Gary, these shocks look like the Bilstien PSS9 shocks fitted to my R33 GTR. I can remember you saying at the time that u thought the spring rates were a bit high for the car. Acting on your advice I spoke to Heasmens about changing the springs. I was told that the the spring was specifically designed for the shock "some special taper winding" and that there were no bilstien alternate rate springs for it. I would be interested in knowing the rates for your set Consequently I am left with

a. Putting up with to harsher springs particarly in the rear I only run R spec rubber and is not a daily driver

b. Buying an aftermarket spring for the shock with possible reduced quality and warranty issues

c. Almost buying your first road package for a R33

d. Selling the ones I was talked into buying and purchasing your track R33 track package.

These kits are mostly sold in Japan, so they have stupid Japanese spring rates to suit that market's demands. I have specified the spring rates for this Group Buy, they are NOT the off the shelf rates from Bilstein.

Pop over to the suspension thread (http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=79157) and post up the spring dimensions and I will work out the spring rates for you.

From what I can tell the Bilstein springs are made by Eibach in Germany or Tevemen in Holland, Bilstein do not have a cold spring winding machine themselves. I can't see any problems arrising from you using Eibachs of a more suitable (Australian) rate. The adjusters on the Bilsteins easily have a big enough window to handle the lower spring rate. PM me for more details.

:P Cheers :D

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
