I am slightly concerned...

My car has recently begun blowing the slightest bit of smoke at idle... It looks black... which I spose is better than white..

Also the car doesn't idle very well when warm.. when its cold it has a nice smooth idle, but after it warms up it is constantly hunting.

At around the same time I cut the speed limiter wire (No. 53)

I know that wouldn't have anything to do with it, but I am also thinking maybe the harness isnt plugged back in as tight as it could be??

I will check the harness later, but I thought I'd ask you guys what you think..

There are 2 coolant temp sensors.

One for the dash and one for the ecu.

The one for the ecu controls coolant temp injector enrichment.

Have it reading cool all the time and it will be fine when the motor is cold but bad when the motor is warm. As you said, a little bit of black smoke on idle.

Most likely the afm, but still worth the look if its not.

interesting.. I swapped the rhs one on mine a couple of months ago and no diff so I just figured that probably wasn't the problem.. maybe i should investigate too :P

I think I may have narrowed mine to old fuel pump though.. now inplace is a GTR one, problem seems to have gone in 20 mins of testing tonight.

its definitely the LHS connector.. you are right... pays to check the service manual :P.. Diagnostics are on page EN-384 of the RB20DET service manual if you have.

If you have a multimeter you can measure whether they are in spec..

I have tried most things but mine has always been a bit over the shop.. seemed better with the pump though (lack of fuel at low revs?). I'm off to clean the *proper* temp sensor right now... see whether that clears it up totally.

    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
