Boost Controllers seem to be the topic of the month.

Well anyway, I just got my PFC tuned, and my tuner attempted to set my HKS EVC 3 up (it has never worked properly) and he couldn't get it going (boost keeps spiking or is constantly hunting). He has lent me a dirly bleed valve till I get a new controller (tossing up between PFC kit or Blitz SBC Spec R).

Before I went and spent my money, I was wondering if my piping had been setup properly.

I looked at Dad's R33 GTR setup to compare (he has the factory solenoid), I noticed that his only had 2 lines. And mine has 3 and another one with a bolt in it to block it. There is an jacket over the line with the bolt in it, and the line that the filter closest to cam.

Then there is a smaller line that goes to the throttle body, it's running of the same line as the round thing (fuel pressure regulator?).

And then there is a line that is the same size as the 2 OEM ones, and goes to dissapears to the same place as the 2 OEM ones.

All the pipes barring the bolted one were connected to the HKS unit, now only the from the throttle body is, and that gives a boost readout (it reads too high though)

now is that thr right way for the pipes to be set up, I thought that you would want all the lines to be the same size to get an accurate boost reading (the smaller pipe from the throttle body is giving a high reading)

So my question is, is the the right configeration for the HKS EVC III. Should I swap the small line, with the blocked line.

Any help would be appresiated.

Maybe its just me but unshore of the pipes you are trying to define.

I beleive you are going about this the right way as if you get the wrong vacuum line, things like boost, fuel pressure,etc that require the correct vacuum pressure will be all over the place. I use a HKS EVC III and they are a terrific unit. Unless you are sure, don't throw it away.

Maybe if you outline and label what you are talking about, it will help to determine the problem.

Just 1 small vacuum line cost me $500 in a wrong tune, had to get it done again. Was not happy for something trivial.

I was thinking of turfing the 4mm vacume hose, and hooking the spare 6mm hose up (as it used to be on the OEM solenoid)

I was also thinking i could use the line that is hooked in between the turbo and cooler, and put it in's proper imput, and the line that's went to come from the throttle body, but i don't know how well it would read vacume presure.

I though pressure was relitave to the area it's filling (larger the area, longer to pressure up/lower pressure) so all 3 lines on the HKS unit should all be the same size shouldn't they?

I'II try to help but looks like a real mess in there. Firstly you should download the EVC manual and that shows how to do the vacuum lines.

Secondly, it won't make a difference if you change them to bigger or the same line cause the items connected just need to measure how much vacuum there is not actually using the vacuum to do a task.

First there are 3 points where there is true vacuum.

One: near your fuel pressure - small

Second: on the opposite side to this - small

Third: Under your AAC unit - where your inlet plenum is - large.

Be carful not to use anything from the inlet plenum as this will give false readings (happened to me and hard to pick cause there is some vacuum but it's wrong)

You can connect multiple items to these hoses so don't worry.

If this doesn't help you then we have to follow exactly where each line comes from and where it going. That way we clean up this mess.

If you know someone with the same engine - copy them, this would be easier.

    • Price seems pretty good to me. Also seems a hell of a lot cheaper then buying another vehicle that only ever gets used for towing.  I'm a long way from you mate, I'm a couple of hours out of Brizzy. 
    • New [400]Z, they're available in manual and you don't have to worry about parts scarcity. 
    • Just planning to have the wiring neat and hide as much as possible.
    • The sodium acetate, mixed with citric acid, doesn't actually buffer each other. Interestingly though, if you used Sodium Acetate, and acetic acid, THAT becomes a buffer solution. Additionally, a weak acid that can attack a metal, is still a weak acid that can attack a metal. If you don't neutralise it, and wash it off, it's going to be able to keep attacking. It works the same way when battery acid dries, get that stuff somewhere, and then it gets wet, and off it goes again breaking things down. There's a reason why people prefer a weak acid, and it's because they want TIME to be able to be on their side. IE, DIY guys are happy to leave some mild steel in vinegar for 24 hours to get mill scale off. However, if you want to do it chemically in industry, you grab the muriatic acid. If you want to do it quicker at home, go for the acetic acid if you don't want muriatic around. At the end of the day, look at the above thumbnail, as it proves what I said in the earlier post, you can clean that fuel tank up all you want with the solution, but the rust that has now been removed was once the metal of the fuel tank. So how thin in spots is your fuel tank getting? If the magazine on the left, is the actual same magazine as on the right, you'll notice it even introduces more holes... Well, rust removal in general actually does that. The fuel tank isn't very thick. So, I'll state again, look to replace the tank, replace the fuel hanger, and pump, work out how the rust and shit is making it past the fuel filter, and getting into the injectors. That is the real problem. If the fuel filter were doing its job, the injectors wouldn't be blocked.
    • Despite having minimal clothing because of the hot weather right now, I did have rubber gloves and safety glasses on just in-case for most of the time. Yes, I was scrubbing with my gloves on before, but brushing with a brush removes the remaining rust. To neutralize, I was thinking distilled water and baking soda, or do you think that would be overkill?
