Hay guys just a question iam waiting for my car t come in from japan its been two months and it still hasnt left yet

i just woundering about compliance plates and the new laws

My importer has already booked a plate for the car.

i wanted to know if the car got into australia but hadnt put the plate on by May 2003 and got the plate put on after the new law''s were enforced does that mean that they will have to take

all the aftermarket parts off and destroy them even with the plate being a plate under the old law???

can any one help me out on this becuase iam very concerned about this and the amount of cars being imported at the moment iam sure there will be major delays

there shouldnt be any delays in getting the car on a boat to get to sydney at all, talk to your importer, if he hasnt put the car on the boat by 2months then somthing must be wrong.

the car must be in oz, complied by may 8th for it NOT to go into the new laws, if complied after that, then all modified gear must be taken off.

why hasnt the car been put on a boat in 2 months? shouldnt take longer than a 2 weeks!

Thats about right. My importer had it on the boat in about 2 weeks. 2 months sounds like a very long time. According to the person I go thru, if it stays at the docks in Japan over a certain time, then you start getting charged each day that it sits there. Thats why they try to get it on the boat ASAP at the same time getting all the paperwork done in Australia.

This brings back so many memories, after being told that my car was on the ship and it would not arrive for another 4 weeks i got suspicious... after ringing around a few ports in Sydney and Brisbane, they assured me that ships from Japan take about 2 weeks to get here.. i went back to my broker and told him this however he assured me that the ship would take 4 weeks... what annoyed me the most was the fact that he just didnt seem to really care as he already had my money..... after constant nagging.. he finally chased it up for me and found out that the ship was coming in the next day (which was 2 weeks) so lucky i got him to chase it up otherwise the car would have been sitting on the Dock...and i would have had to pay storage fees... then i find that the Radio and Gear Knob and been stolen... he told me that the car was insured but the radio and stuff inside wasnt.. of cause i bitched and complained but what can you do???

So just be careful ppl.. get everything in writing.... i learnt the hard way.. we are talking about thousands of hard earned dollars here so get it all written down...

My car is here now, but it took 4 months after purchase date for the compliance to be completed, I also brought a front bar over in the car which i'm still waiting for as I let the broker take a mould of it which he assured me wouldn't hold me up and now i'm waiting for it and can't drive my car as it doesn't have a front bar

...  so much for it not holding me up!!!

Its now at a point where he's not replying to my emails about the front bar which is pretty slack because he will be the one making money from it not me.

Hmm, Brett,

After reading both your post's, your broking sounds a tad dodgey, and sounds like he talks a lot of bull shit. Are you getting any thing out it, by you helping your broker out with the front bar? if not, i think he is just trying to screw you even more. Is the dodgey broker all set up for the new SEVS? or is he just a back yard yobbo? hopefuly he may be shut down soon.

Later.

Drivebai: the parts that get stolen from the warfs from cars usually happens,as all the cars are open, my car from japan came with a full Alpine navigation system, and double din stereo with sony speakers, all that was left of that was the actuall dvd alpine computer (because it was bolted under the seat) and antenna on the back window, my bloody alpine tv was stolen, remote, head unit and sony speakers were all stolen from some stupid ass low lifes at the warfs here in Oz.

you cant do much about these things, just hope that the car comes in oz in the way it left from japan.

This my friends is why i dont deal here in this country. For starters

i get sick of defending myself becoz everyone thinks that i am going to do these things to people......not too mention people think that i am making a fking million dollars from them...I used to work at a garbage tip in japan and i was sick of tripping over RB26engines and complete R34 GTR's in prestine condition coz dont you know second hand cars in japan are worth nothing???

But seriously can some of you Guys please PM me the names of these people that are doing the dirty deals???I not only would like to know who they are....but am in a position to do something about it....thanks

    • That was the first session so not a lot to take from the day. It was low 20s ambient and the coolant had got to 110 (and obviously had some pressure!) so that still needs to be addressed. I haven't downloaded the data yet but will. I had refilled the auto trans with Redline DT6 because it claimed the best viscosity I could find at 100o. It wasn't really long enough to get a good feel for that; while the trans got to 100o in the session it still wasn't shifting crisply as I hoped. I think I'll try a few more sessions before judging. No steering motor overheat but I'd hope not in only 1 session! But finally the suspension; it was night and day over the standard stuff and the car was a couple of seconds quicker on the same crappy tyres, which is a huge difference. I'll stick with that and get some sway bars and a mechanical diff sorted too and see how that all goes together
    • I guess it’s partially a compromise of how my car is used, wanting to be able to switch from drift to grip with track side on-car adjustment. Also partially with the way the knuckles are set there is more static camber but less dynamic camber gain.
    • OK, so update from the track day on Friday It was a classic "an unfortunate series of events'. There were a few cars around and when i checked my mirror coming out of the fish hook I notice some smoke from the rear of mine. Looked again and it was getting much worse, I figured I'd blown a turbo or something to got off it and pulled off the racing line. However.... since it is a left hairpin into a right kink, I was on the inside of the next corner. There was a car passing me on the left and a big drop off over the ripple strip on the right......and someone had knocked the witch's hat that was on the apex about 1m onto the track. So, between those 3, I decided to mow down the cone and not damage my car/the other car. Right choice, but surprising result.  The car decided the cone was a small pedestrian so it blew the rear bonnet hinges up to protect their head in the upcoming person to car impact....I didn't see that coming and like an airbag deployment it happened super fast. Straight into the pits from there, everything was driving fine but it became clear it was a coolant leak not smoke, it was billowing up onto the windscreen. Onto the trailer and home. I'll do a separate thread about the repair (once I work out what it is ), but the immediate problem was the bonnet wouldn't open because the front was pinched onto the front bar and would not release. Ultimately we unbolted the hinge from the bonnet, pulled it back a little and it released from the front OK. "There's your problem", the top radiator hose had popped off at the radiator.
    • Yeah that looks like great caster, but I'd suggest trying less front camber some time and seeing if it helps with braking without reducing mid corner speed too much
    • I ended up setting the rear 5mm higher than normal to give some clearance.  My plan is to run the least camber I can in the rear which I think with the extra width is going to need to be -1.75 to -2.00° just to get clearance.  Guards have been rolled and pulled as much as they can/I would be wanting to.  front has the Acostal knuckle with the KPI change and the drop etc. So should be okay with the existing settings I have run with AR1s etc Front: Toe total -2mm(1mm out each side) Caster +7.5° Camber -3.8° Ackerman +15°
