Regency is the suburb that the motor vehicle testing place is. If you bring an import or a car from another state into SA and want it to be registered in SA than you have to take it to the workshops in regency for a compliance inspection. Remeber that they don't transfer your remainibng rego from state to state so if you have moved here don't bother changing to SA rego untill your old rego is about to run out. Hope that answers your question steve.

Steve,

I'm sorry to say but it sure will :)

"Regency" is the term commonly used for the Regency Park (suburb) Vehicle Inspection Station. It's the place to get defects cleared, import compliance checks, & most important to you, rego transfers (WA to SA).

I had to go through a basic Vehicle Identification Inspection (VII)when I transferred from NSW to SA. You can only remain on WA rego for a small time period (can't remember how long?). My NSW rego was due & I could've just renewed it but as NSW requires a road worthy inspection anyway I needed Transport SA to sign off on it!

I rang & asked Trans SA & they said I MUST transfer to SA, even though I'm in the Defence Force & "should" be able to remain registered in whatever state I choose! Anyway I bit the bullet & got it done ;)

You only need a VII not a full roadworthy (much bigger - nasty!) but they'll still pick you up for obvious no-no's. The purpose of the VII is to ensure the car is legally registered to you & complied within Australia. They check the VIN & Eng #'s (engine # is stamped on the block low down LHS).

As a rough guide here's what I did/didn't have a hassle with:

*Failed*

MOMO Race wheel - didn't comply with ADR's. It did! They were full of B/S but I wasn't going to fight it because......

That was all they picked me up on! :P:D:D

*Passed*

Lowered - didn't check

Exhaust - ditto (didn't look under the car @ all!)

K&N pod filter

A Pillar mounted boost gauge

Razo pedal set

Aftermarket ECU/turbo - ditto

& plenty of other little potential no-no's

Things I fitted straight after the inspection (I mean that day!) that would be a good idea to NOT have fitted for the inspection:

Oil catch can (regardless of set-up ie legal or not)

Aftermarket BOV

I wouldn't have dark tint either as they REALLY target cars with dark tinting!!! Dunno' why?

The inspection only takes 10-15mins max & any minor drama you can do & come back, same day (I fitted my stock s/wheel & passed a few hours later).

But........ I got my inspection done @ another station south of the City, can't remember the name of the place now, but can recall how to get there! I took it there as they only did VII's & therefore no waiting list, just rock up & in you go! They were less likely to go over the car with a fine tooth comb as well!

Hope this info is of some help mate.

DOH. Where abouts is this other inspection place - sounds like it might be worth a shot.

So your in the defence force - which one? I am one of those too, just got posted to Edinburgh, but I am a submariner (dont hold this against me...lol) - Now I'm postwhoring my own thread. hehehe

Thanks for your reply

Steve

Steve,

I'm an AVTECH in the RAAF (14yrs). I've been @ Aircraft Research & Development Unit (ARDU) for ~18mths, so pretty much Edinburgh too :) Currently the main ARDU area is 2mins drive from the base but our new facilities on the base are scheduled for completion late this yr.

I'm guessing we'll cross paths from time to time :P

As for the 2nd inspection station, I can't recall the name of the area? But I can find my way back there from memory, if need be mate ;)

how come the pillar mounted gauges pass?? i thought they were illegal??

I don't know what the legalities are with regards to additional gauges? But I have "heard" that clearance is the major issue. Clearance from potential head injury in an impact, & from obstruction of vision. My Autometer boost gauge neither blocks my vision nor poses a risk of impact in a crash.

I don't think the inspectors were that concerned with my gauge/A pillar mount, maybe they were in a good mood that day? It was a Friday.

    • Ok thanks..that was my second question if i can somehow bypass this even with Nistune(that is all i have right now...aparat from stock ECU. So with some aftemarket it can by "bypassed" or make it work?  I know there is Link or Haltech (mainly used). We have ECUmaster here so i will gather some info about it.
    • Yes. You will need to get the original boost sensor and wire it in. That is.... if you plan to use a stock ECU - even a Nistuned ECU. The Nissan ECU will not operate correctly without it connected. And yes, it will do annoying stuff like you are experiencing. You will almost certainly be better off with some aftermarket ECU, than trying to hunt down rare sensors.
    • Ok so ABS/TCS is "not" the problem. Yeah i know now about the ABS with Nistune(i told that to the Nistune guy) but iam not 100% why or why i dont have ABS. ABS cube is in the engine (always has been) but i had braked couple of times rly hard and brakes just locked and scream. Does all Skylines have ABS cube? That boost sensor https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/367633-wtb-r34-gtt-turbo-pressure-sensor-pics-inside/ Is this it? I need to ask but i have a picture of engine bay and i do not see that (100% is not in that place) If i do not have this the car can do what mine is?(cutting around 4000 rpm) Here is the pic of my engine bay(only one i have) BUT i think i dont have that cuz loom was used from my RB20DE NEO and i know (obviously) that it does not have boost control or any wire to that...) so maybe that is the problem? (i dont know for 100% if that car where the engine is from had that)...but i dont have the loom from that
    • I'm with you here. It's either loom has an issue, OR, injectors are not functioning properly. It could even be they're just constantly dribbling, hence the wet, but not firing.
    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
