Hey guys.

Ive been on the hunt for a new car for the missus for the last few weeks.

Having a budget of 15K and certain requirements like Wagon, auto (misuss's choice), cargo barrier and also wanting reliability and safety with plenty of power, naturally we where limiting ourselves to the good ole Commomdores or Camry's.

This was very annoying as the last 2 wagons we had (VN and a VS) both diffs shit themselves and all round the cars are just rubbish.

Poor resale value, dodgy quality and handle like a bucket of shit on a slipperydip.

I also have an R33 GTSt and know and appreciate the quallity of a good Nissan import.

We knew of the stageas but always thought they where out of our price range untill we stumbled across a RS4 for sale for around 16K located in the gold coast.

Made a few calls and aranged some details and we ended up getting this one for 14.5K. Some of you probably already know it.

Stock as a rock!

Virgin RB25DET to play with.

We are getting it transported from the gold coast and it is due to arrive tomorrow and we are heaps keen :(

I have a few noob questions for y'all:

I am curious as to what is the go with the tints? Why not do the front door windows aswell?

Is the AWD the same as the GTR? Is it traction controlled? or is it full time?

And also it is an RS four V - series 1 (auto). What does the V stand for or mean?

Cheers,

paul. :(

Nice one :( For the V info, see the sticky thread Buyers Guide to get some further insight.

Front tints? well, any front window tint is illegal and defectable, at least in SA and Id think other states as well, plus probably certain rules for this in Japan where the car was marketed.

I believe the very rear (dark) windows contain the radio antenna, dont know about the rear passenger windows though, I thought it was all Seraphic glass and not actual 'tint'.

Im sure others can step in here and relay some further information (correct me if Im wrong please ppl's).

Well done, top price for a Stag - Brendan

why is tinting the front window's illegal? Is it to do with the rears being so dark?

Its its done to legal tint, wouldn't that be fine? Like 35% or whatever it is.

As l've seen plenty of cars from JP what didn't have window's tinted at front get them done.

Hope so, l'm getting mine done the day after its registered, due to what l will have to carry in the car at times, and that l dont' like people seeing in at whats inside my car.

Cheers mate, I'll check out that thread now.

Im not refering to the windscreen being tinted, just the drivers and front passanger windows. To match the other windows.

I was wondering about the antenna. Is it electric.

Where does it come up?

:(

My understanding is that (in vic) you are not allowed to tint the front sides or windscreen - at there is no way you can do it the same as the back....

Vicroads PDF n regards to window tint.

Reading that, all cars tinted with 35% tint on the drivers/passenger windows is illegal? am l reading it right?

Otherwise there's no mention of other window's, just that they should be able to pass 35% of light through. Which would mean all of us are up the pooper right?!?!

Strange wording on that pdf.

Ok, here is the deal about the tint. Tinting below a certain % is illegal because the cops cant shine a torch through the window the see who/what is inside.

In Victoria, its 35% light trans as a maximum for tinting the passenger/driver/rear windscreen windows. You are not allowed to tint the windscreen below 75%, more so that you are allowed to put a film that blocks out UV/Glare then darkness. If anyone ever brings up the illegality of your window tint, our cars DONT have tinted glass. It is UV cut glass, meaning thats the glass that is like that, not any film. (kinda like stained glass)

Because the Stageas were brought to ADR's with the windows the way they are now, that makes them legal to drive. I remember someone saying a cop pulled them over and said that its too dark, the guy said its the glass but the cop still gave a minor defect. The guy then got a letter from a tinting place saying that it isnt tint and that it cant be removed.

Me, personally, i prefer the rear windows tinted and the fronts not done, its a very suggestive look i find. The rear windows are 25% light transmittance and you could just get the fronts done in 35% to semi match, but i like it the way it is.

Regarding the antenna, there is no "pop-up" style antenna, it is built into the car. There has been talk that its in the rear quarter glass, but i think thats just the demister

As you will soon discover, the 4WD is quite far off the GTR running gear. Its funny because heaps of people say that its "GTR running gear" where in reality its just ATESSA with smaller axles, no LSD (unless manual S2 S) and all other "scaled down" components.

Thanks for the info guys :D

[ STAGEN ] - very strange wording, I read it a few times aswell

I checked out the NSW RTA site and found this pdf about tinting.

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/dow.../vsi03_rev3.pdf

From 1st Aug '94 all passenger vehicles require 35% VLT and we are allowed to tint all the windows the same.

The windscreeen is allowed to be tinted from the top no more than 10% and must clear the wiper blades.

Alex - Thats interesting info about the antenna. Damn good idea as it prevents it from getting broken.

How do they do that :D

let us know how you go with the PFC.

Im interested to see the results ;)

Congrats and welcome to the Stagea family ^_^

Great price for that Stagea.... I wouldnt have minded it myself

In regards to tinting, as well as all the other facts stated here, you cannot tint the windscreen to a certain % due to refraction. Dark tint will tend to bend light more than just a plain untinted window... Especially when its on an angle.....

Meh

Cheers,

Chris

Congratulations on the Stagea

To confirm regarding the antenna, it is embedded in the glass on the driver's side where the "boot" glass is. Kinda looks like a demister but it is the antenna.

Enjoy the wagon

Cheers, Al

Cheers chris,

I checked your one also while searching but it was a bit out of our price range.

Did you put in the new exhaust? What kind is it? Size etc...

Ive been trying to source some exhausts but they arent cheap. :D

Cheers mate,

Hows that about the antenna! They are such a clever car.

My missus is pretty excited, it'll be here in the morning

Major step up from the washing machine she was driving previously.

My four year old is stoked too. Mum and dad both driving skylines (well sorta).

Cheers.

:D

The tint is a Jap thing

It must be either a law or a trend

I am looking for a Stagea aswell and had 9 pictures of Stagea's emailed to me from Japan and 8 off them were all tinted the same as yours

They even sell window tint kits on Yahoo auctions, none of them include the front side windows.

Attached is a picture of one of the cars I am looking at buying

Same window tint.

I am in the same boat with family wagon

I have had a VX from new. It keeps falling apart.

stagea_11_200landed.bmp

I got my front windows and rear hatch tinted after i got it, couldn't get it the same darkness to match, but it still keeps the heat down inside. you'll notice that on hot summer days the leather sort of sticks to you. still, for the rest of the time leather is the way to go ;)

the thing with the front window is that blue strip across the top i think. it's a sort of 'tint' and that's where the 10% and not below the wipers comes from

awsome car though, i wanted that colour, but couldn't find one at the time i was buying.

    • Please use a modern ECU. PowerFC with the Nintendo Gameboy controller is horrible. It's not 2005 anymore.
    • The car/ECU will have all the sensor that it needs and expect to have. I think i do not have to explain to you how the Link is way better specialy if you have swapped engine   I just do not want to deal with any "problems" cuz i have only Nistune which i learned is not that great and in my case cant even deal with that speed problem (Link can) And of course it will be way more easier to tune and diagnose and safe. And for the ECU/speed problem...i dont know.
    • Per Mark Roberts of Sonictune: Mark Robert Author At this time, no. No ETA either 2016-17 models. You will be able to purchase and install a 2018.5+ TCU though   TCU purchasing and pricing info! As we near the release of TCU tuning, I am going to answer some questions I get asked often.   What do I need for TCU tuning? At this time, you will need a 2018.5+ TCU to be able to tune. If you have a 2016-to early 2018, you will need to replace your TCU with the newer version. One good way to know if your TCU is good is if you have auto upshift in manual mode in 1st gear around 6500 rpms. If your manual 1st gear goes to 7k rpm and will hit the rev limiter unless you shift, you have the older TCU.   Why do I need to buy another ecu license/phone flash if I already have it on my ECU tune? The TCU is its own computer module. It is completely separate from the ECU. Because of this, you will be required to purchase a TCU license and, if your tuner has it, the phone flash license required to tune it via phone/bluetooth.   Do I need TCU tuning? TCU tuning is NOT required. However, the faster your setup, the more it will assist in track and dragy time consistency.   If I’m ECU tuned by (tuner A) can I get my TCU tuned by (Tuner ? Yes, since it’s a different module and a completely separate flash, you can have two different tuners. However, it is highly recommend that you have both tuned by the same tuner. For me, my TCU tuning will directly complement my ECU tuning style and features and running my ECU and another TCU or vice versa MIGHT cause some issues. At this time and for the foreseeable future, I will only be tuning my current ECU tuned customers TCUs.     I have a SYVECS AWD controller. Do I still need it? Yes! The AWD controllers main job is to control your AWD system. However, with TCU tuning, you will no longer need the auto-shift function as that will be done through the TCU. The AWD controller will still be very beneficial for racers looking to maximize traction on the launch.     Shift schedule changes: holding gears longer at lower pedal input as well as max shift rpm changes. Please note, the new ECU race rom coming out will address 90% of the shitty drivability issues these cars have through custom maps from myself and Racebox—as well as others I am sure.   Increase shift speeds: as seen in the videos I’ve been posting, the TCU shifts much faster once tuned.   Increased shift pressures: as also seen in the videos, much firmer full throttle shifts.

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
