To have pods on the 32 doors you would more than likely have to be fairly handy with the glass. If you or someone you know is handy with fibreglass grab a spare set of door trims from the wreckers and be creative!

If you don't want to go to that extent and are really only after better sound, some decent sound deadener on the doors, focusing around the speaker area will greatly improve sound. You could also try making up a bit of MDF to mount the speaker on to get rid of some resonance as well. In the end its just another case of the more time and effort you put in the better the end result!

cool. yeah i have them mounted on some new mdf ... i think it may be a good idea if i was to get another set of cards from the wreckers and play with them..

its just the shape of the cards them selfs that bugg me...

but thanks for that mate :D

  • 2 weeks later...

see thats where im different when i bought new speakers my main concern was to keep them in the stock location nice and hidden away so nothing looks out of place

thats just the way i wanted it which is cool considering i dont have to worry about the same stuff you do

i have to agree, i hate the dip in the middle of the 32 doors..

but not nearly as much as i hate the r32 dash.

well, the instrument cluster surround anyway..

i have a spare set of door cards, and dash, so when i get the 32 back i'll be making full custom doors and dash.

and getting the whole interior re-done and cleaned up

this thing's gonna look like a aston martin when i'm done with it!

but seriously, if your any good at diy,

get a spare set of door cards, do some research on fibreglassing and try it out, you'll enjoy it...

cool sounds like fun.. I dont mind the R32 dash, lots of options for making that look better such as CF surround and some white faces..

But i do have a hatred feeling for the door cards.I consider my self very handy with car mods but just wanted to know if anyone has done it b4.. LMAO speaking of spare parts, i have a set of stock front guards im going to mod with FG and make some trippy vents. Should be good.

Any one know of a site that deals in FG add on vents?

What size are the speakers will fit in the stock locations???

thanks

I have read thet you can fit up to 6x9's in there, 6.5" will fit nicely - If you check the mounting depth, I didnt and ended up having to make angled pods with MDF and a lot of glue, sticky tape and chewing gum :) cost my sanity dearly. Check out the sticky for the bracket template.

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
