Hey all

I've finally bought the car I've always wanted. An R32 GTS-t. Been through 5 cars in the past 2 years, n now I've finally decided its time.

Now I just gotta wait til it lands. I've been doing my research and all, but I'm still having trouble determining what specs mine car has.

Ie- HICAS? type M? etc.

Heres the link, with all the info they've given me (not much when ur really anticipating it)

http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au/au/st...sp?StockID=3640

Also, note the R33 upgrade. I've done some reading on that. But should I be getting an aftermarket ECU if it doesnt have one? I dont want anything crazy just yet cos im still on a tight budget until my funds replenish. What are the pros and cons of the upgrade?

Also, when it lands, i plan to do a 100k service. But is there anything else i should be doing?

Aesthetically, im going to black it out with black wheels n black tint. not too ricy i hope.

Cheers guys

Jen

Jen,

Is that a boys or a girls name? Looks like you purchased a R32 GTS-T Type-M. I had one of these before.

Good that you will be doing the 100K service, timing belt, air con belt, pwr steering belt, all the belts, of course if they fit in your budget.

I'm not sure if these are covered in your compliance but I would also suggest, all the filters to, ie. fuel and air.

Might need to replace your spark plugs. If you dont like to keep replacing the spark plugs, buy the iridium ones, ~$25 each.

Change you oil and oil filter.

Check all your fluids are good coloured, replace as required, ie. brake, pwr steering, clutch. Radiator got some green radiator coolant.

Check your hicas fluid, not sure where this is on a GTS-T, could be the same with GTR's, inside rear right quarter panel.

Run some nice injector cleaners, I think optimax or ultimate might do the job.

Service your gearbox oil, rear differentials (Maybe in compliance)

Get it tuned.

These are just some things I came across when I was fixing my GTS-T.

I suggest to hang off the rice'ing up for now as you will need the money to repair. These cars are never never perfect (except when new =)). A sleeper that breaks down aint gonna be much of a sleeper, sleeping in your garage is the best it would do.

As for the R33 Turbo upgrade, I don't think you need to replace the ECU, possibly a tune. Fellow tuner may shed some light here.

I hope theres a start for you

You won't need to change the ECU. The RB25 turbo flows more so it's a good power upgrade. Just when you get it over here....make sure you do the 100k service, change all the drive belts and MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE ALL OF THE HEATER HOSES, including the little one under the inlet manifold. How much are you paying for it in total including compliance?

Check your hicas fluid, not sure where this is on a GTS-T, could be the same with GTR's, inside rear right quarter panel.

Get it tuned.

there is no serperate hicas fluid resovoir on either 32 GTR or 32 GTST. it's just the power steering fluid.

the resevoir in the boot in a 32 GTR is for ATESSA and has nothing to do with the HICAS.

It can be girls and boys name.

Mines short for Jenanan, which is a boys name. sorry to disapoint. lol.

But thanks for the adivce all, been very handy.

Its gonna cost me an estimate of about 9k drive-away price.

Then i gotta get the 100k service done. Which is the water pump, timing belt, heater hoses, also i'll do the sparkies, oil n fuel filter, oil change, radiator flush, n get all the other things checked out etc.

Im assuming that this car does have HICAS?

Also, is digital climate control standard as well? cos i can sorta make out an LCD screen below the air vents.

As for the R33 turbo, glad theres no need for additional expenses apart from a nice tune, which i'll get done with all the other things.

In sydney, wat workshops do we all recommend? Im in Western Sydney, but pretty willing to travel a little distance to the right place.

Cheers for advice

    • I refreshed the OEM injectors with the kit and connected it up. It now ideals okay even with the IACV removed. Driving still has the same cutoff issue like the 550cc injectors so the issue is somewhere else. I bought FPG's Fuel Pump Hanger. I will be installing it next, but it is not as straightforward as I thought it was with my limited wiring knowledge and no instruction on the specific model I purchased (FPG-089). I also got the incorrect billet clamp as I could not find info on the OEM sizing.
    • Stop looking at the garage floor, and turn the radio up a bit louder if there's any strange noises...
    • No. Turbo shuffle and surge/flutter are not the same thing. Specifically, on a GTR, turbo shuffle has a definite meaning. On a GTR, the twin turbos are assumed to be the same thing and to operate the same way, exactly. In reality, they do not. Their exhaust sides are fed and exhaust a little differently, to each other. Their inlet sides are fed and exhausted a little differently, to each other. Consequently, when they are "working" they are often at slightly different points on the compressor map compared to each other. What this means, particularly when coming on boost, is that one of them will spool up and start producing extra flow compared to the other, which will put back pressure on that other compressor, which will push the operating point on that other compressor up (vertically). This will generally result in it bumping up against the surge line on the map, but even if it doesn't, it upsets the compressor and you get this surging shuffle back and forth between them That is "turbo shuffle" on a GTR. It is related to other flutter effects heard on other turbo systems, but it is a particular feature of the somewhat crappy outlet piping arrangement on RB26s. There are plenty of mods that have been attempted with varying levels of success. People have ground out and/or welded more material into the twin turbo pipe to try to prevent it. Extending the divider inside it works, removing material doesn't. There are aftermarket replacement twin turbo pipes available, and these exist pretty mush purely because of this shuffle problem.
    • You can temporarily* use lock collars to keep it in place until you can do the bushes, back the nuts off, slide them in, snug back up. *temporarily is often for ever
    • Thanks for the quick reply. To be clear, when you say turbo shuffle do you mean turbo flutter "stustustu" or referring to something else? I had thought they were the same thing. When I wrote the post my intention was to say it wasn't a flutter/compression surge sound. My understanding was that a flutter sound would be occurring when throttle is released, whereas I can keep the throttle in the same position for this noise
