I've been wanting to put a Thermo fan set-up on my R33 for sometime now and was just wondering what people out there had already done an what works best?

Single or Twin?

What size fan/s?

How have you mounted it?

What sort of switch set-up has been used? thermo controlled or switch?

What brand stuff has been used?

what'd it cost?

feel free to post up pictures too, a picture says a thousand words!!

I have an R32 and have installed a 14" Davies Craig fan but prior to installing the 14" I had a cheap 14" and 10" fan I purchased from ebay. Unfortunately I dropped the 14" fan when installing the 10" and subsequently damaged the motor bearings. I replaced the fan with a Davies Craig 14" fan (In my experience Davies Craig fans are reliable and good performers).

I have retained the 10" and the factory A/C fan. All 3 fans are operated at the same time; result = very effective.

The fans were triggered via a temperature switch in the bottom of the radiator but now by the Haltech ECU which now runs the engine. I recently installed a single 14" Davies Craig fan on my Bro-in-laws R32 and it operates with the A/C fan.

I managed to purchase a 14" Davies Craig Fan kit (includes bolts, relay and wiring loom) from a local Automotive A/C company (Brisbane) for $165 (inc GST). I then purchased a new temperature switch for $45 from Autobahn. The switch activates at 85 degrees and turns off at 80 degrees (Autobahn didn't have a switch in stock that would switch on at about 87 and switch off at about 83). Keep in mind the thermostat opens at about 76.6 degrees.

Total price is around $210.

We fitted an N14 Pulsar twin setup to an R33 and used the aftermarket ECU to switch it.370rwhp with no problems.

The Fan on the passanger side needed to be unbolted from its mount and refitted to the same bolt holes but moved to the front of its mount to make more room for the power steer pump.

I run 2x12" Davies Craig Thermo's on the front of my radiator and no clutch fan. i have a radiator industries alloy radiator.

they cool really well, and actually on the highway gets too cold! be interesting to see what its like with cooler in front of it

    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you  
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'  
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
